What glue for aeroscreen reassembly
I'm having a problem with my aeroscreen not staying glued.
I had no problem taking the original mechanism apart and reassembling it with the new 7/8ths screen from Rick (which is beautiful). But I think that I'm using the wrong type of silicone glue.
The original screen was held together with stuff that was almost clear but slightly yellow, and had dried very hard, just barely pliable. The stuff I used has never completely hardened; I can scrape it off. I've tried gluing twice, the second time just recently with a four day drying period, very well clamped. But today driving around 70MPH I heard a slight creaking noise from the aeorscreen. When I stopped and got a good look I could see that the two halves of the base were slightly separated.
I think that a good solution to keep the aeroscreen from vibrating so much in the wind would help prevent this, but I know that I need to find better glue. The lack of air getting to the drying glue may be part of the problem.
What exact brand of glue have people used that hardens completely and really holds this thing together?
Thanks,
Ted
p.s. Yes, I'm the crazy guy who drives in the Seattle winter with the top down.

I got the Siliconized Acrylic but ended up using Duco Cement. No problems with the adhesive. My problem is with the full size windscreen which I think may stand in the slip stream deflecting it into the car.
Good luck.

I think epoxy designed for plastic will solve your problem. But you have to remember that once it's glued, you probably won't be able to get it apart without doing some damage.
I'm miffed that you're having this problem. We've been using the large screen now since December and the assembly is tight as a drum.

Rick,
what type of glue did you use? Have you exposed it to 70MPH plus top down driving?
I do like having the option of being able to take it apart again, but not at the expense of it coming apart.
If I could figure out what glue the original screen was put together with, I'm sure it would work.
Have you given any further thought to something to keep the screen from vibrating?
Thanks again,
Ted
