Werid Shifter Issue
I just got my S a few weeks ago and its been flawless except for this one issue. About 50% of the time the shifter would get stuck in the reverse engaged position (not stuck in reverse but stuck pushed down to where it would go into reverse without needing to be pushed down). Its as if something was sticking and holding it down. All I had to do was manually pull the shifter up and it would fix the issue until I put it in reverse and it would get stuck again.
It did this for a sbout a week until just the other day when it really got stuck. I had to pull up on it very hard to get it back. It went back but it also made a very loud "pop" noise. Now the shifter is VERY loose and has about an inch or 2 of play in diameter. It goes into gear fine but it is very loose. I'm thinking maybe a bushing popped off? Any help is appreciated!
Thanks!

The bushing had popped off just like I predicted. It was stuck down in the shifter and was a total pita to get out. I ended up having to pry it out with pliers. I crimped it together some, greased it up and put it back in hoping I can get a few more days use out of it until I get parts from Honda.
TWO new bushings from honda you'll be good as new.
TIP: soak the bushings in hot water for five minutes before installing. If you dont they may crack open when you put them on. trust me

Can you describe the second "bushing" needed for us n00bs.
I am assuming the first "bushing" the OP is talking about is that little clear plastic cup at the bottom of the shifter on the ball...?

OP lost the bottom bushing. It sits on the bottom tip of the shifter.
The top bushing is 4 times the size and goes around the middle of the shifter. In my experience, THIS is the one that causes up and down sticking. It has large surface area.
So I definitely recommend both. you can also just test the top bushing in the trans housing once you take the bottom bushing off. Just leave it on the shifter and try it in the trans. It should move up and down with ease and not stick.

Thanks. And ya I'm going to replace both. The big "cage" one was the one sticking. I cleaned it and re greased it and now it works fine but still has some play due to the worn bottom "cup one". I was just an idiot and pulled up really hard when it got stuck once and it caused it to pull out of the bottom bushing. I also somehow managed to cross thread my shift knob in the process but that's another story..
