What Happened to the S2000 Community?
I think the issue is with some people who make negative comments about what other people do to there car. It's actually more than just being negative, it's flat out hate. Hate towards "stance", hate towards "fake parts", what ever it is, it's not welcoming towards other peoples opinion or tastes. So those people who have different taste or want to do something different to their car, they see the comments and they avoid coming around here.
I used to frequent this forum almost every day but now it's more like once every 8-10 months. The community isn't what it used to be. It has a lot to do with the age group and the maturity level. Most owners back then were not teenagers either. Nowadays, you can't have a civil conversation without somebody trying to ram their opinions down your throat. I'm only on here if I'm looking for old DIY threads, otherwise I don't waste my time with the nonsense.
I think this forum is just fine, and it is immaterial that the car has been out of production for seven years. People still go out of their way to help one another here, even me, who traded his S2000 for a NSX not so long ago. Additionally, I love my local Northeast Ohio group, though my crazynutsinsanebusy work schedule doesn't allow me to hang out with them much.
The difference is Facebook. I once despised and avoided it, but since purchasing my NSX that's where I find myself, more often than not. NSX Prime is still a special place, but so many of its users are on its Facebook page, or the NSX Owners Group, that some users on Prime started a similar thread to this one not long ago.
It's just a sign of the times.
Let me take this opportunity to tell you all how much I despise the "posting" system at Facebook. It's so much easier to do a Google search for S2KI (or NSX Prime, for that matter) content. Facebook is simply not as amenable to search, and that's why you get people asking the same question repeatedly. I've been a victim, once (though only once!)

I love the S2ki community for the most part, I cannot tolerate the Facebook groups, it just makes me sad and depressed. We all evolved though, typically as this happenes I think your taste in things like cars evolves, so the natural evolution from here is to a Porsche or Lotus. Unfortunately for me, and I think many of the "older crew" the S2000 is just too great of a car to move on from, some try, but many have returned. This has left a lot of us sorta stuck in time, watching things change around us. This really says a lot about how awesome this car really is, and I guess it is cool to be one of the few who really "get it", we are maybe the last few who actually ever will understand. I like S2ki, and the few meets that I do make it to, the local guys are pretty cool and for the most part the younger crew is respectful and isn't too bad. So I sorta live in that familiar bubble when I want my S2k community fix and gravitate to familiar territory and avoid Facebook like the plague. Besides no one can take what this car means/has meant to me, the only worry I have is the future availability of nice clean examples, makes me want to fill a garage full of them to get me through the next 60 years (hopeful I live to 94ish)!
I think things have changed around here, and rightfully so.
car out of production
most problems have been addressed
most how to's have been addressed
People move on to other cars
It's quieter now. I still think it is a world of knowledge and most everyone here I have been in contact with has been great and supportive. I have used venders just cause they exist here. I have learned so many "how to"'s here.
It is a compliment to S2000 ownership IMHO

In my humble opinion, the economy tanked and took all of the joy out of life.
And me thinks that it's a bit unfair to blame the younger second or third generation owners for the loss of site enthusiasm. The mere fact that they own these cars proves that they have a pulse!
So don't despair lads. As long as there are S2000s on the road or in collectors' hands the forums will live.

They all seemed to agree/notice that the s2k scene has somewhat tanked as of late and that it's not as tight-knit as it once was. Interestingly enough, none of them currently own an s2k, (nsx, rx7 owners.)

It's the internet as a whole. Also, as far as the S2000 in particular is concerned, as someone else pointed out it's a much older and more affordable car now. The demographic buying the S has started to change somewhat, which has pros and cons. Honestly I'd really hate to see the S2000 community become the same as the rest of the Honda community. No disrespect, as I used to be a diehard EG owner myself, but I'm not keen on going back into the world of HT/ClubCivic and all that mess.
