What Happened to the S2000 Community?
I attribute it all to the older community simply moving on. 9 out of 10 people I know that left the forums left because they sold the car or are moving on with their lives and spend less time online (family, jobs, etc).
New owners aren't replacing these guys on the forums because the new owners are younger kids who don't use forums and use social media instead. I personally agree that social media is inferior to S2ki as far as technical information, DIY's, etc....but that's because i'm not a kid and I value that kind of stuff. Kid's on the other hand, prefer the easier-to-access Facebook and Instagram which allow you to post images immediately, tag friends, get more overall visibility and instant answers.
So you have the old generation moving on, new generation using social media instead = deteriorating S2ki community.

I'm pretty new here and new to s2000 ownership in general considering I bought my first s2000 February 2015. Also, I was in elementary school during 03'-04' so I'm part of the younger generation you guys think so horribly about (jk, I didn't take any offense to this).
Anyways, I owned a RSX beforehand and I can definitely say this forum is way better and more tight knit than the clubrsx forum. I can find just about any and all information I need. I actually get responses or see others get responses easily when they have an issue or need advice. I actually want to/don't mind posting on this forum, and I don't think anyone would make me feel inferior just because I may not know something. People actually interact on this forum, like this thread for example. I'd also like to point out that not all of the younger generation migrate to social media. I'll choose this forum for information rather than social media anyday. Here I can find people who have actual experience with whatever I may be looking for. So that's just my two cents.

Spend more time at s2kca.com , that is an S2000 car club. s2kca.com is not just a forum where people get into spats over stupid arguments like "Which is better Ap1 vs. Ap2 ? " It is a much slower moving site compared to s2ki.com but it is more of a car club atmosphere. Their meets reflect that attitude too. I have to admit the members are a bit older, but they are true s2000 enthusiasts first, and the forums are just a way to spread the good news. You won't find any stretched tires or stanced s2000 owners over there, that can be a good thing.
I remember a few years back I got S2000 owners wave at me occasionally when we cross each other's path...but this doesn't happen as often now.
I also see more and more younger people being able to get their hands on some of the less well maintained / desired S2000's. I don't think they care much about their cars. They seem to be okay with scraping the bumper and abusing the engines, mismatched body panels and £$*&ed up roof, foggy headlights etc.
And oh, replica parts. Many more companies have emerged over the years to replicate authentic parts. I think this plays a big role in destroying the community. People can't afford authentic JDM goodies and can only go the cheapest route. This is just going to get worse guys.

1) S2000s became more affordable, which means more immature and irrational owners bought them. Result? Terrible mods, wrecks and owners chatting on Facebook, Instagram, etc. (not that those sites are bad... I use them).
The values seem to be rising, which is a great thing.
2) They haven't been in production for 7 years, so it's natural to see a decline in forum traffic.
I still think this is one of the best car forums and visit it frequently for both old and new posts.
I think once more mature owners start to rescue some of the poorly modded or wrecked cars and the car becomes even more highly sought, the forum will go through another positive cycle.

This occurs on every forum once vehicles become a lot more affordable. It simply attracts a younger, different crowd. Since the cars they buy are cheaper as a whole, they don't feel the need to spend $$ on quality parts; especially since their cars may cost a few thousand dollars more than the part(s) itself. While it is different, there are also a lot of positive things/people you can focus on who still maintain that "old school" passion.
Remember "cheaper" doesn't necessarily mean trash. One may not be able to afford Ohlins or Motons coilovers, but acquiring a set of Bilstein Pss9's or KW V3's wouldn't be considered by many on here a non-functional purchase.
This is very true from my experience as well. No more waves on the road. This use to be a long-standing tradition amongst our community, once I noticed people stopped doing that, I knew things were changing for sure.

I think it's something every forum is experiencing it the last few years.

From my experience younger S2000 owners don't wave. I wave at all S2000 owners, the younger ones don't know what I am doing and almost never wave back, they grew up texting and have no idea what a wave means.
Our local community still has its strong bonds for the most part.
Still see the occasional wave or headlight flash, which is nice after not seeing it for a few years.
But I have definitely noticed the downward slope it's taken since joining 11 years ago...hence why people call me an asshole on the FB pages because I let a dipshit know they're being a dipshit
Sucks, but I guess that's what happens when the resale value drops, there's new fads and trends internet attention whores need to follow to feel appreciated with e-likes, and this new generation in general wants everything now instead of over time and have zero care for whether they're buying a cheap knockoff or not. The strong desire for replica parts with these new owners bugs me, sorry not sorry. I'd rather appreciate something than be a cheapskate trying to fake the funk just to impress people over the web.
The Civic community doesn't wave to each other, that's why
