what kind of replacement oil?
About 1 year ago, I switched to Mobil 1 5w30 after reading and talking to several mechanics. One mechanic rebuild a motor that had 110,000 miles on it that always used Mobil systhetic and he stated the inside of the motor looked new!
With my new S2000 I'll stay with Mobil 1 5w30. That's my $.02 worth.

In general, you should be certain your engine is fully broken in before switching to synthetic. There's no hurry -- you can use regular oil permanently without voiding your warranty, so it pays to wait until you're sure the engine is ready.
You can check on how your breakin is going by monitoring your oil dipstick at every gas fillup and recording the level. (Make sure the car is dead level every time, though. The dipstick is very pitch sensitive.) When the consumption rate stabilizes at something nominal, like half a quart per 3750-mile oil change interval, you're ready. If your car burns a lot of oil, say a quart per 1000 miles, it may be a good idea to hold off on synthetic for a while in the hope it will get better.
