Auto Parts Customers Bill of Rights

You have the right to buy high quality, reliable aftermarket performance and replacement parts, an affordable and convenient alternative to vehicle makers part.

You have the right to use high quality aftermarket parts and know that your new car warranty claims will be honored. In fact, your dealer may not reject a warranty claim simply because an aftermarket product is present. A warranty denial in such circumstances may be proper only if an aftermarket part caused the failure being claimed.

The foregoing exerpt from a message from SEMA, Specialty Equipment Market Association. For further info on what to do if your new car warranty is denied, call the federal trade commission at 202-326-3128. To receive expanded info on warranty denial, call 800-514-SEMA(7362).

Your rights are protected through the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act, 15 USC, 2302 and the Clean Air Act, 42 USC, 7541.

I know this subject has come up before, so this time I looked it up and figured I would type some of it out. Pheww...

Please save it for later if you think you may need to reference it, and after hearing some of the screwed up stories from dealers, I think it actually might come in handy for someone.

Good work and thanks Bobway. I will file this away as I have the CAI and a good relationship with my dealer, but you never know. [QUOTE]Originally posted by Bobway:

Another question that may also be interesting is "What will void insurance?". Here in Sweden new regulations basically forbid ANY modification to a new car. In theory you could get into trouble after a breakdown or crash if the insurance company got wind of mods. I don't know what the situation is in other countries though..

Top, this has already been forgotten about, and almost every other thread is now asking about it...

Not knowing how to spell warranty voids your warranty.

Dealer's "discretion". If he feels the mod had anything to do with the failure he may "choose to charge". You can always take stuff off prior to service. Personally I have found Honda (motorcycles) to be very proactive and honor warranty even on highly modified machines. They seem to want data points as many others have the same mods.....and they'd like to know where the weak links are to carry to their race programs. I only hope Honda Cars is the same!
