Interesting... their list of top 5 sports cars is made up of 2 GT's, 2 roadsters, and only 1 real sports car.
Roadsters are about as "real" as sports cars get ... some purists exclude everything except roadsters, and a few even insist that roadsters have the engine in the front.

I think most people would include two seat performance coupes like the Corvette, though, and many might even include glorified go karts like the Elise.

To answer the original question, I think the S2000 would have difficulty matching the current Boxster S cornering performance without a lower center of gravity. I guess that's one of the advantages of the Porsche flat 6.

Carry $20,000 in quarters in the trunk everywhere you go?
and wish I had thought of that answer!

The Boxster S in the R&T test is the new 2005 version. The new Boxster S is the real deal, to say the least. So, I disagree that it's "tough to be behind the Boxster S", but rather expected.

That's not intended to slam our beloved S2000, but let's be real here. Stock for stock, the new BS beats the S2000 in acceleration, braking, skid pad, slalom, lap times, and on and on. This shouldn't make you lose sleep however, because as I am always quick to point out, the BS costs twice as much.

So take solace in the fact that the S2000 scored very close to the Elise in the four spot and not that much lower than the universally adored 911 in the three spot, costs about the same as a fully loaded Accord or Camry, and will run forever.
Absolutely! The Boxster S has been significantly updated by Porsche for 2005. It's much improved over the previous models so any past comparisons that show the S2000 as equal or better than, no longer apply.

If money were no object I'd have a Boxster S, but since it is, I'm very happy with a little 2-seat convertible that comes embarrasingly close to the BS's performance for very close to half the money!

How to make your car go around the track as fast as the magazine tested Boxter S?

Put race tires on your S2000

Race tires and a supercharger should make short work of a stock Boxter...

BTW guys and gals, out of curiosity, I got on the Porsche web site last night and did a "build and price" on the Boxster S.

Since this was "just for fun," I put everything but the kitchen sink on the car. The only items I left off were those things that, even if price were no object, I wouldn't want on the car.

Final retail pricing? ................... $74k+

I sure LOVE my S2000!!

Off the subject a bit. I was in a parking garage yesterday getting into my car and I glanced over and saw what I thought was an MR2 poking out of a bay. Ehh, I said to myself, pretty blah looking as usual. As I was driving by, I realized it was a Boxter. What an ugly front end on those things, so ugly I thought it was an econo-roadster!

Sports cars don't have an abundance of convenience accessories. Sports cars are not heavy. Sports cars don't use oversized engines and tires to make up for their engineering shortcomings.

Technically, the Elise is the only sports car on the list. That is not saying the other cars can't be considered "sporty," or that they aren't great at what they do, but they're not true sports cars.

"Most people" don't know what they're talking about. I'm sorry to stray from the topic, but stupid Americans have always been a pet peeve of mine.
