What would equal Boxter S?

The basis for this assumption; personal belief or experience, magazine article, hearsay, Honda salesman? Just curious. Everything I've seen and heard says the 04-05 is the best handling. Kinda makes sense to me also. Honda builds a roadster with performance and fun factor as the main goal, and makes it a worse performing car as the years progress. Refine the suspension geometry, add bigger tires, all to make the car perform worse? Interesting.

"Most people" don't know what they're talking about. I'm sorry to stray from the topic, but stupid Americans have always been a pet peeve of mine.
If you are right about your definition of sports cars, I'd hardly say anyone who doesn't know that specific definition or what makes a sports car is stupid. I don't know what the exact definition of a sports car is, though I will always call my s2000 and a Vette a sports cars, because I don't feel like consulting some car bible to get the exact definition. I'm not stupid because of this.
Oh, on to the point I was originally going to post. I priced a regular Boxster, just for kicks, and the options I wanted came to around 54K. But the thing I noticed was that it's rated at 240 hp and 2855 lbs. That would seem to make the new Boxster a near dead-even match for the S2000. Probably easier to drive faster, too.

Sports cars don't have an abundance of convenience accessories. Sports cars are not heavy. Sports cars don't use oversized engines and tires to make up for their engineering shortcomings.
Technically, the Elise is the only sports car on the list. That is not saying the other cars can't be considered "sporty," or that they aren't great at what they do, but they're not true sports cars.

Say what you will about stupid Americans and about why the Vette isn't a true sports car. But the Vette had the fastest track times in this comparo. Yes, faster than the 911. Yes, much faster than the Elise. Looks like heavy with an "oversized" engine is working out okay.

If I WERE to be ABLE to put down the dough for a properly outfitted BS and it DIDN'T out do everything on my S2k I'd be pretty upset!

I'm very happy for the Corvette. A Corvette is also faster than a TR4, a Bugeye Sprite, an MGB, and an Elan, but the Vette is still not a sports car, while the others are.
