I know the only actual "limiter" on our car is the drag, but how fast have ya'll gotten your (stock) cars? Top up and/or top down.
I've done 130 with the top down on the HOV lane (at 2am with no traffic, mind you)... is that average?

legally? a track day? how?
and 165... hmmm... I'm gonna have to verify...
and can factors like humidity, road surface, or anything at all effect engine performance or create significant friction (cutting through dense air, driving on coarse tarmac, etc.)?
The max speed I got on the highway was 258 Kmh or 160 Mph, I'm not sure what the error on the gage is, but at 200 Kmh it is only 4 or 5 Kmh off (measured with GPS), so about 2,5 percent which gives at 260 an error of 7 Kmh.
As from 250 the acceleration is very slow, 'maybe I could get a few more Kmh's out of it but the traffic did not allow me to try it out, furthermore there were some bumps in the road which are rather scary at that speed.
I was not at redline yet, but not far from it 8700 Rpm or so.
Some guy with a big BMW thought he could keep up with me, but off course ... it did not work, I was happy to see the frustration in his face
every time whe had to slow down for other slowmovers

Most of the test reports I have read where they correct for wind and grade have the car topping out in the high 140's. Most around 148. With 240 HP thats about right where you would expect it to be. At those speeds going any faster takes big HP boosts. The car is HP and drag limited not RPM. Top speed RPM would be right around 165 but it can't get there. That would normally take closer to 300 HP to make the jump from 150 to 165.

GeorgeP,
Good point. Peak power is at 8300 on a stock S2000. To accelerate past that point, you have to do ever-increasing work (due to the increase in aero drag) with ever-decreasing power (power falls off after the 8300 peak).
Now a mph tail wind would certainly alter that equation.
