I witnessed 158mph on the speedometer, top up, flat road.
After 145mph, it was very slow acceleration.
It is very possible to hit 165mph on downhill road.

Again I repeat myself. It might be possible to hit 165 ON THE SPEEDO on a downhill but the speedo ain't accurate. It's ridiculous to talk about speedo speeds. You might as well say that your car will do 0-60 in 4.5 timed with a sweep second hand on a wristwatch instead of a stop watch. Neither one is an accurate measurement.

158 INDICATED sounds about right. That's probably about 150 true. To increase top speed from 150 to 165 would take about 21% more horsepower and that's a lot of HP.

The orginal VW Beetle had 36 HP. There wasn't a one made that wouln't go 80---ON THE SPEEDO--but every mag that tested them found the true top to be 68 MPH!

this has been beaten to death at least 20 times..... the speedo's are probably fairly inaccurate at high speeds (NEED GPS TO VERIFY YOUR SPEED).

I have seen 162 top up slight downhill, and 157 on flat... of course that probably translates into 155ish and 150ish with speedo error.

more importantly the S2000 does 48mph in reverse

I dunno about how much the extra drag affects reaching top speed (have only hit 120 mph -- legally myself, lol), but lap times are definitely
