on my MY 2001, the connector is only under the driver side seat, and i suspect (but haven't confirmed) that it is sensor for the seat belt light...

yup, you guys are correct
page 20-64 of the service manual shows the "seat belt switch connector" on the driver's side

Isn't the driver's seat also where the brain for the (optional) OEM alarm goes? I've seen photos of it mounted there.

There are three wires bundles connected to the oem alarm under the seat. They all have the usual Honda lock (depress and try to pull at the same time). Two go to relays mounted under the seat and one goes to a big green plug that is attached to the oem alarm. They can be hard to get out sometimes because of the lock. On one occasion, I unbolted the seat and turned it sideways a bit to get at it. There is always the usual seatbelt sensor there as well.

Wires, connectors, alarms, oh my!

I expect to find some loose change and a couple french fries under my seats.
