Is there a local parts store this can be bought at? I've tried two different stores and neither of them have heard of it.

That was not clear in your post...

Anyhoo, having installed my fair share of gears over the years I'll tell you what most super weekend warriors already know. GM yellow crap is good stuff, works very well, but a close second is lipstick (depending on brand, you don't want the "wet" kind or the"dry" kind, you want the happy medium) and it is cheaper. Head to CVS and get a stick and get to installing those gears. Given a good choice of lipstick, it will leave a great pattern.

I wouldn't use toothpaste, it's not meant to mix well with 80w90. prussian blue or machinist blue would be your next bet.

Summit can overnight the marking compound. Or you can take your chances with whatever you find if wednesday has to be the day.

looks like you will need some lipstick then. Error on the dry side of the spectrum. you need something that can be applied but the pinion will leave a pattern in. toothpaste definately won't cut it. also make sure to clean the gears of that oily film they are sure to have otherwise it is hard to get the stuff to stick to the ring gear. Believe it or not, I actually have lipstick in my toolbox in the garage for this very purpose

I assume you wash the lipstick off after we have it ready to close up and reinstall on the car. lol

yeah summit can overnight the compound for about $30. i'm not going to do that though.
