I purchased a silver 02 S2000 exactly 1-month ago today. I recently checked the VIN number after discovering how to read it on this site. The last four digits of the VIN are 0290 suggesting my car was the 290th in the 02 production run. This seems really low considering I purchased the car in mid-July. I saw the car just after it had arrived at the dealer and it had all of the protective plastic etc. on it. Mileage was about 12-14km (I can't remember exactly becuase it took me about a week before I decided to buy it).

Any ideas regarding where this car has been sitting all this time? I'm not sure what the total production run is for this car each year, but could I be mis-reading the VIN (i.e. could it be the 10,290th car?).

Anyway, it seems to be a mystery.

There are differences in the Cdn cars so they probably have their own VIN numbers. That is yours is the 290th car built in 02 for Canada.

 

Vin numbers are weird, theres not tellin what it means.

 

Andrew is correct, we have our own series of serial numbers in Canada. Your last 6 digits are 800290, correct? The 8 indicates the Canadian series.
