I musta got too caught up in the discussion and just realized this topic has little to do with UTH. Moving to S2000 Talk.

I shift at 2.5-3K to save gas. When in a little bit of a hurry, I shift at 4K. Of course, 9K once in a while.

I think that shifting below 5k is an insult for the nippon guys who built this engine.

There are varying degrees of "normal". Depending on what you are trying to do in any given circumstance, your shift rpm will be slightly different. If you are just motoring along sedately, maybe 3000 rpm will do. If you are trying to clear the intersection more efficiently, you might want to go a little higher, maybe 4500 - 5000. If you are going downhill in a sedate manner, you might even shift at 2500. If you are trying to negotiate a long hill, you might want to wait till you get to 5000 so you don't put too much load on the engine.
No single answer is the correct one and you shouldn't try to go by a given number. For daily driving, you should learn to drive by "ear". There is no need to gawk at your tach every time you change gears. Your eyes are best kept UP and looking for stuff you might run into or what might run into you.
Well said

This statement makes me think you have not read your owner's manual. I strongly suggest you do so. Many of the questions that you will come up with will be answered in there.
Actually you are right. I just got around to reading the manual through last night and got the information needed for shift points, car maintenance, care, etc etc. One thing it didn't cover was whether you can use some kind of a cleaner on the soft top and if so, what kind...?

Regarding the top. Just wash it like you do the rest of the car. (I'm hoping you use a good "carwash" soap.) Depending on how often you park it outside under the sun (the hotter, the more important this becomes), you should treat the top with a protectant like 303 Aerospace Protectant. There are many helpful hints in the "Wash and Wax" forum here on this and other cleaning/polishing tips.
Keep in mind that our tops are NOT canvass. It is plastic (vinyl).

Also, if you are going become a "wrench-head", you might want to purchase a Helm service manual (Helminc.com) for this car. Also, at the top of the "Technical" section of the Under the Hood forum, you will see a couple of threads that provide lists of many of the "How To's" for this car (FAQ thread) and all you could ever need to know about OIL in the "Oil Journals".
Happy ownership and reading.
