I actually do have an 8" touch screen mounted in my dash. It's a wide screen display too, so it's great for watching movies. It connects to an ICPC in the trunk, and helps out with some things like data logging and track mapping (when it all works properly ). It also gives me in-car GPS, wireless internet and/or cell phone internet access, music playback and recording, video playback and recording, DVD playback, CD and DVD burning, MP3, spread sheets, word processors, games, flight simulators, and all the other stuff you can do on a PC. I even have a wireless keyboard and mouse because the touch screen is less than ideal for some things.
But can you post on s2ki.com from the car?

You could do most of that with laptop, cellphone and bluetooth GPS (say a Sony Vaio UX and a PPC6700). But integrated into the dash of an S2000 is pretty cool.

How about playing Need for Speed while running the Dragon?
How about playing Gran Turismo and slamming into a wall on Trial Mountain right at the starting line of a drag race for a 2G buy in?

What does ICPC stand for? In Car Personal Computer? I've thought of that, but the heat in the car and rattling kind of scares me. When I graduate and get a job, I'll get the hand held PC and fab an in-dash bracket for it. That should be able to be integrated into the rest of the system.

Amazing what you can do with the right knowledge, tools, and gadgetry. Kudos, and my heat off to you MX5 . I hope to see it in person some day maybe in one of the meets or in a road trip up to Georgia.

Take care.

I know man, like you're driving along and playing the game, and a deer or something runs out in front of you, and the process of missing the deer you crash your game car. I really hate when that happens.

Just kidding guys, just kidding.

Not long after we put the thing in the car (the first time around) we were in town, at night, and I had the GPS running. The maps are really nice on the 8" display, and eventually we'll have the GPS speaking the instructions. Anyway, we were stopped at a light and there was a big 4WD truck beside us (a prototypical Georgia Redneck Pickup Truck ), and we noticed it because the two cuties inside were giggling. Amid the giggles I heard one of them say, "I wonder what they're watching?"

Maybe you had to be there, but it was pretty funny at the time.

LOL, this is in reference to the most recent wanking thread, but it fits your comment perfectly.

I don't care who you are or how much you know, you should never try to teach a pig to sing.
It only wastes your time and irritates the pig.
