Jehman, I'm afraid I don't. It's real hard to zero in on the noise, and it seems to happen only when the car is wariming up. I have three bars, but the car hasn't been running long.
I'm curious to know why you took off your intake cover if it is related to the hard top.
I'm still looking...

Sorry, now I understand. I pretty much only hear it when the top is down. Now that it's getting cooler here in Louisiana, I hear this whistle. The sound is kind of cool.

I have the same noise. It only happens when I'm going about 50 or faster. The description is correct: it sounds like a turbo. I'm semi worried about it. I really think that it is coming from the engine. Will do a better check tonight.

I have an intake installed on my S. And I have noticed since the installation that when I press on the gas I can hear the engine sucking air in throught the pipe. It might be that what you are actually hearing is this sucking in your stock intake. And that it has not been noticed before becasue there is much more noise with the soft top. Also you might not be able to hear it at lower speeds (ie lower gears) because the engine revs up and becomes loud quickly. As you press on the gas peddle the butterfly valve in the throttle body will open and let more air in along with the gas...

Just a thought.

I have a similar whine in my car. In my case, it's gear whine. The tranny is very close to the passenger compartment and there is very little sound deadening in the car, making it pronounced. I imagine that the hard top isolates outside noises much more than the soft top, so all "car" noises are probably more pronounced.

If the noise is ONLY in 4th gear, I wouldn't worry about it too much. If the noise is in all gears, I would be a little more worried, but it may be nothing or it may be an input shaft or output shaft bearing, or the differential.

I just replaced the transmission in my truck because of a whine in 3rd and 5th gears - the countershaft bearing was replaced 3 times but the noise kept returning after 5-10K miles. After giving up on it the dealer finally just put a new tranny in it. I had the same symptoms - the more throttle I would give it, the louder the whine.

Hi Guys:

The noise you are talking about is pretty normal. You can hear it in almost any gear and at idle. It is in the intake and corresponds to engine speed and throttle opening. I tried to find it in 2000 when the car first came out and didn't get too far. It is more noticeable to me when the car is cold as I'm driving slowly down the street.

It sounds like a high pitch reed flutter and is there mostly when you are at a neutral position with the throttle in relation to the engine speed. If you open the throttle a little it goes away and if you close the throttle it goes away.

Those of you w/modified intakes may not get the whistle.

HTH,

if ur using a CAI or just a cone filter, that could B ur prob. cuz U tend to get more free flowing air, so it causes it to whistle!!!

I wanted to dig up this thread because I'm having an "issue" with mine as well.

However, mine is only noticeable when I stop the car. It sounds like the radiator fans are going non-stop all the time. I havn't started to hear this until recently (a week or so).

You would think the car should be fairly quiet when idling, but mine is loud.

I'm going to take it in to the dealer anyway, but i was hoping someone might save me a trip and mention a few things I can try.

Thanks

Your filter may have fallen off. Shine a light in there to see what you can see.
Also check the continuity of those other hoses to make sure they are on tight at both ends.
