My answer is much like Unicron's. 90 miles from my home is Watkins Glen International Raceway. The best my HONDA CRX-Si would do was 110mph (backstraight is uphill) and I'm tired of being eaten alive by the BMW M3s.

Top speed is only a small part of the whole package, if it's even important at all. It isn't in my case, i'll possibly hit that top speed once in my ownership, just to have tried it once. More important is handling, acceleration, looks, convertible top, ... etc, etc

Just knowing as I cruise down the highway that I could go faster than probably 98% of all the other cars on the road gives me great satisfaction, especially when all the SOBs in SUVs are flying by.

I track my car. It's about 2800lbs and in order to achieve a decent rate of acceleration on the track, there's a certain horsepower requirement. Take that horsepower and factor in the Cd, and you get a top speed of over 150. On the track I almost get up to 130mph. Throw in some race tires and an upgraded suspension, I'll be going even faster. My goal wasn't to get a 150+mph car. My goal was to get a car that's fast on the track. 150 is just a direct result of that requirement.

Because I couldn't keep my 160mph car running right

Seriously though, I'd have to agree with Elistan: "My goal was to get a car that's fast on the track. 150 is just a direct result of that requirement."
