Why is the Rx8 so much cheaper than S2k?
When I was car shopping, I test drove an RX-8. And then I did some research. RX-8's have horrific maintenance problems. It appears that with the rotary engine it's a hit-and-miss kind of deal, either you get one that runs forever or you get a dud. They also have problems with their wiring. The S2000 is, however, quite the reliable roadster.
Because they are junk compared to the S. I have a friend with one and he has already had to have the engine rebuilt. I was affraid of that when I was looking for a car and thats what made me chose the S. I have never driven one but I can imagin being owned by Ford they are crap in the quality department. Who knows tho.

Obviously, if Cavaliers are any where near competitive, these cars are far from stock.

The Miata is one of the most successful sports cars made (far outselling S2000s), and I doubt they'd be so popular if they were "crap in the quality department". If anything, Mazda is more of a sports car company than Honda - its been selling popular and critically acclaimed sports cars continuously for decades.
I don't want to get off topic, but the point is, the RX-8 is made by the same company that makes the MX-5, a car with an excellent reputation for quality and fun. If you've never driven one, you should try one out before you pan it.
Compare the JD Power dependability rating difference between Honda and Mazda. Clearly, the main reason a used Mazda won't bring as good a price as a used Honda is becaue there is a HUGE difference in reliability.
I find this more than a little surprising, beause every Mazda we have owned has been as reliable as a stone (or a Honda). LOL, but then we've owned a bunch of Fiats too, and found them to be the same. Maybe Honda owners as a group just take better care of their cars.
Apparently the big difference here is reliability.

2nd rate sports car? Check out USTCC to see these RX8's in action. MS3 also beat S2K laptime at Laguna. Mazdacup Miata series pretty damn good as well. Mazda sports cars aren't crap. RX8 is not ugly and my hardtopped S2K has been mistaken for an RX8.

I just bought mine on that deal.
1. Get a Costco membership. Call the local dealer and tell them you want the Costco deal. A manager will call back and schedule a sit down. Don't talk to any salesmen...people and ask him what the current costco price is....then tell the manager that there are several people getting 28 in the bay area. The local clubs have the costs up and there are several posted here. I got mine lowered by going with a color that they had in stock, -500. Start soon, as I have no idea when the holdback expires.
