Windshield WARNING
Using light Sos-pad (steel wool) scratches the hell out of the wimpy windshield (I tried it before replacing the windshield to see the effect on all the pits)... do NOT do this.

Glass polishing is often done with a cerium oxide paste or disks. It is done at low rpm, is time consuming, and can result in a microscopically uneven surface that affects night and wet weather visibility. Most glass shops will recommend replacement rather than polishing.
I have tried rubbing compound with very limited result, but no apparent damage, but not worth the work.
Since most insurance companies (here) will not replace a windshield unless your vision is impaired, I was looking for some option to deal with the pits and scratches.
Anyone find a good answer?
