Default Winter battery charger needed....

I dont drive my car when there is snow on the ground, ever. This, in NY, can be for a month at a time.

I am looking for something to keep my yellow top charged up, and NOT overcharged (must be able to shut off automatically) for that time. I do NOT like to disconnect my battery, because I have a lot of electronics, that I hate reprogramming.

I remember XVIPER saying that trickle chargers arent good, because they never stop, and I need a smart charger.

So, I was wondering, from people with experience, whats a good one?

I found one, just wanted to know other opinions....

Is this one any good? The Sentinel Charger

Thanks for all your help!

That one looks pretty good, however, I'm not about to believe the advertising hype they printed saying it's better than a Battery Tender "hands down". Battery Tenders have been around for a long time and is a proven product. You should buy based on price and ease of purchase. You can't go wrong with either.

Dave - the box doesn't stay in the car. It comes with a set of leads on a quick connect that stay in the car.

I bought the Battery Tender Jr. a couple years ago and it works fine for me. It was only $20. If you install the optional wire, you can just plug it in also.

I agree. I'm not sure I'd like to keep a charger constantly wired to the battery, even when it's not plugged into the wall. I know on my "Intellicharger", that when I unplug it from the wall, the car's battery then runs the other way and continues to illuminate the lights on the charger. I don't like the idea of this reverse electrical flow.

Your heaunit does the same thing. Your ECU does it as well. LEDs on the charger are almost nothing.

All these items suck power from the battery when the car is off. Its a very small amount, not noticible to you, unless your car sits for 2 weeks.

The SC6000A that I posted has Float Mode monitoring that will turn itself on and off depending on the charge. The Schumacher website says this can be used all winter to maintain the battery.

You cant install this in to the engine bay tho!
