winter use
Hello all. I'm buying my girlfriend a new car and thinking that I'd like to buy something that I could have fun driving occasionally as well. So...
I love the S2K...! I took one for a test drive for the first time yesterday and absolutely can't get it off my mind. We're also looking at Acura's new RSX Type S and from a practicality point of view the RSX has it all over the S2K. Obviously.
So my question is - if I bought an S2K and put some winter snow tires on it how do you think it would perform? Would it be similar to every other RWD car on the market or would it be worse? This is a critical question as we live in Canada and get lots of snow. I used to drive a BMW 540 in the winter and only got stuck a couple of times so I'm thinking that the S2K would be similar???
What about the combination of the soft top and the heater? Will it keep us warm enough or am I really asking too much of this car?
FYI winter temps sometimes fall into the -40 range although the norm is more like -20C.
Thanks in advance for your reply to my questions.

You should do a search with the word "winter". There have been lots of discussion on this topic. I've driven mine through 1 winter and it was no problem. I did not have my hardtop last winter and the heater and block heater work amazingly well even through -35* temps. Just be careful getting the snow off the rear window - scratches real easy). You must choose your snow tires carefully (plus a seperate sets of "rock" wheels so you can do the change yourself twice a year). Blizzaks are the absolute best so far. "Ordinary" snow tires are less capable IMO. This car is better in winter than other RWD cars because of the 50/50 wt. dist. Wash the underside lots when salt is on the road. Get some kind of front end protection (3M Scothcal film) for rock chip defense. The only thing I miss are seat heaters. I'll try to do this before next winter. If you plan to drive a RWD sports car in winter, this one is pretty darn good. Most other sports cars I've owned and driven in winter have all eventually leaked fluid of all sorts due to the cold affecting the fittings. This one does NOT. My most ideal winter sports car was, in fact, an AWD twin turbo Stealth (this one shoulda been a keeper but that's another story).

I use my S2000 year around in New Hampshire. Properly fitted/equipt with snow tires the car does not have a problem. Opinions are wide, but it would be a good idea to do a search. You would probably see that most of us who do use the car run Blizzaks on the cars.
Hope this helps.
