Not to contradict, but I don't find it amazing at all. First, the S2000 is such a fine car that it is very easy to be pleased with it. More importantly, I think we all fool ourselves into thinking that the "grander, more powerful, more expensive" cars are really that much more satisfying. They really are not. For most of us, the difference in performance is something that we will never really be able to realize. Once you get past that, and the false sense of prestiege and status that comes with the higher priced labels, you realize that the simpler, lighter, less expensive cars like the S2000 can be every bit as satisfying to own and drive if not more so.

I always laugh when I hear or read of others drooling over the exotics. I think our "non-exotic" little sportscar is much better suited to most of us.
Perhaps I misrepresented myself ... I really meant "I think it's nice to see that ..."

Thats one of the best posts I've seen on S2ki....ever.

I think Jeremy Clarkson says it best in Topgear when he allures to the fact that outright speed, handling, and/or braking are not NECESSARILY what makes a car fun to drive. The car has to have the "x" factor - which he believes is character. The S2000 has that in spades.

I downgraded from an 03 NSX to a 06 S and I'm totally satisfied.. Even though the S2000 wont come close to the exotic beauty of the NSX, the S feels A LOT funner to drive.. The gearbox, steering, and motor to say the least feel great.. way more lively than my previous NSX...

I never thought I would get a convertible. The only downside of the S2k IMHO is the drop top. The hardtop makes it look WAYYYYYYYY better, the price makes me stay away! Waiting to find a good used one.

That being said, I have had 2 IS300's '01 and currently an '05. The IS is a BLAST to drive.. Since I have gotten my S, I drive my IS way less and will sell it soon.

I have never thought about buying a BMW other than a 01-03 M5 but the new 335i coupe just came out and I am going for a test drive in the next few days. This car should be real fun to drive. BMW has a lease special for $529/month on their website which is pretty fair for that car.

Updates soon.
Sold your '03 nsx for an S and you aren't getting a hardtop because of the price?! What happened to the rest of the money from the nsx?

I've always made it a point to NOT test drive a car I cannot afford or plan to own within one year. Unfortunately I didn't always abide by this rule. I test drove my first S2K one year ago....4 weeks ago I finally bought one. Today in the mail I received the Title for the car from DMV....no lien, fully owned! I'm never selling this car.

I know there will always be faster cars out there. I found the one I want to stick with and anytime I start getting bored with the S I'll just put some new parts under the christmas tree for it, haha.

Most fun driving AND owning experience I've ever had. Maintenance and repairs are no more difficult to perform than they would be on a family sedan. Ease of maintenance and repairs was a huge factor in picking the right sports car since I have never taken a car to a shop for a repair in 250,000 driving miles I've put on my cars (combined) in the past 10 years.

I guess I am in a lot of trouble.

I had a '97 GSX, that was in immaculate condition. I bought it when I was 16, and put about $3K into it. Eventually I wanted something that was more reliable. I bought a Wolfsburg Jetta, 1.8T, and I have about $6K worth of receipt's for it. Then I wanted to upgrade to an S2000. Frankly, from a stop, the S would put it to the Jetta, but from a roll, the Jetta has it covered, and it almost handled as well. Now I am 17, almost 18, with an S2000 with 25K on it. I bought it with 22K. This better last me until I am an old man, since I will need a much better job, and a lot more pay to cover something better then this car.

The S2000 messed me up.

I sold my S because of some lifestyle changes (needed more car space), but didn't want to give up all the performance - so I bought an E46 M3. After about a year, and only needing the extra space for about 2 months , I sold the M3 (last Sunday to be exact).

However.....the M3 messed me up.

I can no longer go back to a car with tons less power, and I can no longer go back to something with tons less handling. I think I found the the best car that keeps the higher power, has the incredibly fun handling, and is affordable to me. My Cayman S should be here within the next week or two .............what the hell am I going to do next ........hope the boss gives me a big raise.
I agree, M3 is a perfect blend of handling/power/luxury. I still miss mine all the time. But my RX8 and the gf's S2000 combined keep me happy.
