Would anyone Trade "S" for an M3?
Straight Trade... Same year & condition w/o adding any $$$ - IN A SECOND! I LOVE M3s
But I would rather take that cash difference and invest it into the S. It would look much nicer (bling factor) and most likely faster too (think boost)... and perform better on the track (think upgraded suspension... coilovers, swaybars, braces, tires, wheels, etc...)
So it depends for me...
I'm a BIG fan of BMW.

I don't know how many of you have owned a BMW, but when I did, I never really felt comfortable with the car in the sense that... you f something up, you are really, really screwed with repair costs.
You know how on older Hondas, the trouble areas are usually CV joints and distributers? Well put about 75 items on that list for a used BMW. They are VERY fragile cars. I remember paying over $300 for a replacement door handle. Just the black plastic handle istelf. Only one of the 75 trouble areas that are common and well known to BMW enthusiasts.
I'd take my S any day. Period.

I've had a E46 (lightly modded 330i) for several years and am fortunate enough to have been able to buy the S without trading in the BMW. They are both wonderful cars! I thought I might only want to drive one or the other but they are so different they complement each other nicely. The S is tossable, light, engaging, and is, of course a drop top. The BMW has what is arguably the smoothest power delevery from idle to redline of any car I've ever owned or driven. The S is hands down more fun to drive but would be alot harder to live with as an only car. Especially in S. FLA where it rains almost every day during the summer.....
I'm not a big BMW fan, but I've driven an E46 M3 with the Competition Package. With respect to the S2000 and a regular E46 M3, shocked as hell, the Competition Package M3 had less body roll, quicker steering response, better braking, but the alcantara steering wheel probably takes the cake... Its basically the CSL without the V8 and the carbon roof...
Tough decision... Gotta have both... (if only with Competion Package)...

my friend has an 03 imola red/black m3. i get to drive the car whenever i want and ill say i would never give up my s for an m3. yes the car is faster, the low end power is something i could only wish for in the s, the interior is much nicer, the paint job dosn't look dull like on the s.
on the flip side having power throught the rpm's is overrated. everytime vtec kicks in im in heaven. i mean for me life begins at 6200rpm, not having that feeling while driving the M disappoints me and makes me excited i can jump into the s whenever i want. cmon dropping the top and feeling like ur driving a go kart on roids, whats better.
than there is maintanence, oh geez lets not get into that. my friends car just past 14k miles and its going in next week for the SIXTH time since he bought it ~10 months ago.

I'd also take the Competition Pack M3 over the S.

The CSL doesn't have a V8. It has a slightly more powerful version of the 3.2 inline-6.
