it would be hard for me but i think i would keep my S, unless i had the chance to be in germany with the military, then i would find me e46 M3 CSL and bring it back home.

i actually did the opposite.

sold the m3 to get a S2000

it's a great car.
if your considering to get one make sure you have a reputable shop that specializes in bmw/german cars because the dealer will rape you.

like someone said they are fragile. you have to keep up with maintainance, because it gets very expensive. and trust me you'll be doing quite a lot.

i had a love/hate relationship with mine, but when everything was working, maannn the driving experience makes you forget about all the money you spent on it haha

but thats before i drove the S, fun factor the S wins hands down.

Where's Poindexter? I believe he sort of did this b/c he used to have an S2K and now he has an M3. I seriously doubt it was a straight trade, but he's at least had both cars. I talked to him about this once, and he actually misses the S2000.
Sort of did it?.......I did it. No, it wasn't a straight trade - far from it Yeah, there are times when I miss the S, but all it takes is a trip to the grocery store to remind me why I got rid of it. The S is really for a multi-car house. When we chatted my M was still recovering from an accident from October 18th that is finally complete and over with (the M is all back together) as of this week, so my depression with the M is over Not to say that I don't want another S - I just don't want another S as my only car.

158% These are two totally different cars. The S2000 is specifically good at handling and an awesome track monster plus a fantastic convertible system - it is a specialty car. The E46 M3 is a jack of all trades, not specializing in just one.

There's also distinct differences between regional car manufacturing areas: American, Asian, and European.

Yeah, I wasn't sure if you went straight from the S2K to the M3 or if there was another car in between. I can definitely see how the M3 would be more useful (duh, it's got a backseat and a real trunk) and we all know it's quick... but as you said it's a little more "disconnected" than the S2000 in a track/hard driving sense. At any rate, while I daily drove my S for about 5 months, I just picked up a used Cherokee for my daily driving purposes and I can say I appreciate the S that much better now. Knowing it can sit in my garage until I want to unleash it for some fun, but having the Cherokee to haul stuff and get through the daily grind makes me

For a straight trade...I would. Then I would sell the M3 and buy S2K again. Keep the profit.

what theory do you have that consumer reports would favor japanese and not german?
Have you subscribed to their magazine? Its fairly apparent. Not to mention statistical analyses are often flawed. For an example of these flaws, read up here.

They provide some decent reviews in some things, like cameras and appliances, but I don't trust their auto guides much at all.

Straight Trade... Same year & condition w/o adding any $$$ - IN A SECOND! I LOVE M3s

But I would rather take that cash difference and invest it into the S. It would look much nicer (bling factor) and most likely faster too (think boost)... and perform better on the track (think upgraded suspension... coilovers, swaybars, braces, tires, wheels, etc...)

So it depends for me...

I'm a BIG fan of BMW.
I don't think you'd be able to make an S faster than than an M without spending an exorbant amount of money. And then the M would take 1/10th of that and be back ahead. Handling-wise, I think it'd take a bit of cash to get the M to the S level, but its certainly doable. But the power segment really is no contest.

But as has been said before, they really are pretty different cars.

Hard decision. The S2000 is unique, where I'm from its not a common car you see on the road. Too many BMWs in general on the road already, not M3 specific but BMWs overall. I've driven an M3 and I do like. It would probably be my next car.
Straight trade, yes, then like others said, somehow find another s2000 because I would be sad without it. Maybe sell it and get some profit for another s2000. Although, if I sell my 2002 Berlina with all red interior, I think it would be tough to find another Berlina with all red interior.

And there aren't any Hondas on the road?
