And then there's people like me - purchased an AP2 and kept the AP1 to sell privately. Never could bring myself to do it, and instead sold the AP2 after a year. AP1 all the way for me. Far as I know, I'm the only person ever with this sort of ownership experience.
I doubt that you are the *only* person with this type of ownership experience, but it probably is rare. I also picked AP1 over AP2, but after lots of test drives and soul searching, rather than after actually owning both. However, I don't believe my reasons for that choice are any less soundly based than yours. I've run into (way too many) AP2 owners who what to believe that's the case (that any such decision is either unsound or based on economics), but for the price of owning both you don't have to put up with that particular argument. LOL, it might almost be worth it.

When we get another sports car it won't be replacing the S2000, any more than the S2000 replaced the Miata. Whatever we end up getting next, it won't be another S2000, and it may not even be another roadster. Instead of an AP2, which would be a move in the wrong direction given what I wanted in my latest roadster, we'll probably either go with a Lotus or an Atom. Both cars appeal to me for many of the same reasons the S2000 appeals to me, but they're both different enough to own and enjoy in parallel with the Honda (and the Mazda).

LOL, if I had an MY04 AP2 I'd probably keep it too. I've reached the point where I have a hard time parting with cars once I get attached to them. Now my biggest problem has become garage space.

AP1 - better for the track
AP2 - better for the street

i would hope most people here would agree with that logic. if you think you need a 9k rev limiter for everyday driving you are wrong. flame away.

LOL, I'm not at all sure that the AP1 is actually better on the track.
Have you seen any lap times that bear this out?

sorry that was a really bland statement. not better as in "what percentage of ap1's make faster times on which ever track than than ap2's." but more in terms of driving style and preference. both cars are very similar, but i've driven ap1's and ap2's and i know from experience that i would rather have an ap1 on the track simply based on the way the car feels. 9000 rpms is good for something you know. for the street it's different. i couldn't be happier that i chose an ap2 for a daily driver over an ap1. i'm not here to have some huge lap time arguement on the internet, but i know that probably at least 80% of the s2000s i see on any track are going to be ap1's. i guess it really does come down to preference though.

No need to apologize; I just asked because I thought maybe you knew something I didn't. It really is just a matter of preference and driving style (which affects our preferences), and as much as I love the early AP1's for most of the stuff I do with the car, I on the track I'm actually more comfortable in an AP2, and I suspect that the extra confidance might lead to improved lap times. LOL, not stating that as a hard fact or anything, but just saying that I think I can go faster on Road Atlanta or Roebling Road (or for that matter, the Dragon) in an AP2.

There is more area under the VTEC torque and power curves with an AP1, but I'm just not sure that's enough to offset the high speed handling differences (given my driving style). Maybe the AP1 would be a little quicker on faster tracks, but I think it would take a better driver than myself to prove it.

PalenkosBro, it doesn't make ME cool, but it does make my car cool.
Guys who try to make nothing of it are just exposing their envy.
