Have you seen any lap times that bear this out?
Well there used to be track record info on corner-carvers.com and speedventures.com, but it looks like they took the info down. I can tell you from a previous post I made on this very topic back in April 2006 that AP1s held the S2k track records for Laguna, Sears Point, Thunderhill, Willow Springs, Sebring and Spring Mountain.

And of course we can look at SCCA Nats results from 2004-2007 and see that an ap1 has always had the quickest time.

But regardless, the AP2 is the easiest for most drivers to safely drive fast. Probably less than 1% of drivers out there can get the extra potential out of an AP1.

No need to apologize; I just asked because I thought maybe you knew something I didn't. It really is just a matter of preference and driving style (which affects our preferences), and as much as I love the early AP1's for most of the stuff I do with the car, I on the track I'm actually more comfortable in an AP2, and I suspect that the extra confidance might lead to improved lap times. LOL, not stating that as a hard fact or anything, but just saying that I think I can go faster on Road Atlanta or Roebling Road (or for that matter, the Dragon) in an AP2.

There is more area under the VTEC torque and power curves with an AP1, but I'm just not sure that's enough to offset the high speed handling differences (given my driving style). Maybe the AP1 would be a little quicker on faster tracks, but I think it would take a better driver than myself to prove it.

PalenkosBro, it doesn't make ME cool, but it does make my car cool.
Guys who try to make nothing of it are just exposing their envy.
yea i kno i kno.......i just enjoy the fact that i can "push it to the limit".....a limit that just so happens to be a it more than an AP2

cool can't be measured in any way, shape, or form....i'm just a jokester about it

but i def. went after an 03' when i found out it was the last year that revved to 9

An AP1 is lighter, has a stiffer suspension, no DBW, no CDV, redlines at 9. The only advantages the AP2 has are things I wouldn't want anyway. A glass rear window? I'm getting a hard top anyway. A better sound system? My AP1 has no radio or speakers, and I even ripped out the wiring for them. A more civil ride? The first thing I would do to a brand new AP2 is coilovers to lower and stiffen it. Drive by wire? I much prefer the feel of a throttle cable. Don't even get me started on the clutch delay valve. Honda spends extra money and charges you extra to put CDV's on the cars. Then you drive it home and have to spend more extra money to get it ripped out. The fact that it only redlines at 8k seals the deal for me. I've driven every year S2000, and the MY00 is by far the most fun and tossable. For a mid-life crisis boulevard cruiser, an AP2 is a nice car. For a track ready, no frills 4-cyl rocket, AP1 all the way.
I think this sums it up for me.. I don't own one, but I will probably be picking up an ap1 in about a month. ap2's are drive by wire?!?! I hate that, my mom's mercedes is drive by wire, steer by wire, brake by wire....everything by wire.

Would anyone take a boosted AP2 over a boosted AP1?

RedMX5 and I have / had gears and SC on AP1 which IMHO negates any engine "benefit" the AP2 had. 9k boosted redline is a thing of beauty. I'm running up against the rev limiter all the time as it is... I wouldn't want to give that up.

A boosted AP2 with a 3.636 final drive would be interesting.

There's just no way that the 9k redline could be better than the 8k for anything, ever.

Then wouldn't this make AP2 chassis + suspension setup with F20c a perfect combo HEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHE
Hahaha.

Seriously though, that combination might be perfect for some. Everyone outside North America was getting that combination for a while, and some still do. The AP1 handling dynamics were more important to me than any of the engine differences, but I wasn't looking for a DD or a track car. If I'd been looking for a DD I'd have probably gotten an SLK, and if I'd been looking for a track car I'd most likely have gotten an open wheel car. If my track car had to be based on a street car for any reason I'd probably go with a Miata. From a performance per dollar perspective, a shifter kart is the perfect combo.

Well, I'm running slightly less boost than you, and have slightly more conservative gearing than you have, and I'm sure you've seen the video I've posted where I show that it takes less than a second to get from a standstill to redline in first gear (due to massive amounts of tire spin). The CTSC/AC is like adding a liter to the engine displacement, so of course it would negate any advantage Honda's 200cc increase in displacement might give the car. We've got as much or more torque at 4,500 RPM than a stock S2000 (either engine) has in VTEC, so even at lower revs the boost makes up for the displacement difference.

If you're hitting the rev limiter all the time you should consider a Modifry Shift Beeper. One of the best mods I've made to the car.

Up in Atlanta, in rush hour traffic, with a stock S2000 as my only car, I think I'd really appreciate the extra low end torque of the F22C. As much as I enjoy rowing a gearbox to extract an engines power, it gets old quickly when I'm in gridlock. Also, if the S2000 was my only car and had to be my DD, every day, I think I'd want a glass rear window with a defroster. LOL, of course when I go to Atlanta I usually drive the Lexus, because the way people drive up there scares the crap out of me when I'm in a small car. I went up there ONCE on a bike ... NEVER ever going to make that mistake again.

Would anyone take a boosted AP1 over a boosted AP1? Since a number of people have purchased AP2's and supercharged them, and since they could have had an AP1 for less and still boosted the car, it's pretty obvious that some have indeed made that very choice. Has anyone with a boosted AP1 upgraded to a boosted AP2?

But yea, the 9k redline is one of the things that persuaded me to buy the car in the first place, and there is no way I'd ever give it up, anymore than I'd want to give up the boost. BUT, that's just me (and you), and not everyone is looking for the same things from their car.

BTW, you're new sig photo is awsome. Variety is the spice of life.
