I'm sad to hear about your car, but the important thing is that you and your passenger are OK. It's a good time to reflect on the relative value of things and people. Things can be fixed or replaced (though it may be inconvenient as hell to do it). People can't.

Thanks for posting. Your story is one of the most distressing bits of S-02 information so far. I think when my new rears are finished in 10K miles or so, I'll be changing to something else, dry performance be damned.

And good luck getting back on the road.

What a bummer Glad that you're okay, though. I agree with you, this is a strong car. I still can't believe how well mine held up when I got hit.

Ronald,

Glad you are OK. sorry to hear about the S2K being damaged. Hope everything turns out alright.

Were the tires the factory installed tires? If not, what did you have on the car?

And for the un-educated tire folks like me, what is the difference between the stock tires and Bridgestone Blizzak MZ-01's?

should I worry about driving my S2K in bad weather with the stock tires on it? I only have 450 miles on the car right now and really don't want to wreck it just yet (if at all), if ya know what I mean.

I'm glad I read this thread. I didn't really give the rain much thought since I have never had any problem driving in bad weather with any of my other cars. I was planning to go out this afternoon but it is raining here so maybe I'll just stay in and watch the Masters today.

You guys are all fantastic with the suggestions, advice, warnings, etc on this board. I absolutely love it and all of you for helping us newbies out. THANKS!!

Bummer man! That's the second NL S2000 to get wrapped in a lamp poll. S2000NL lost his that way back in November. Hope it all works out.

Ronald- I'm terribly sorry to hear about your accident. I can only imagine how you must feel right now. As the others have said, "the important thing is that you are not hurt". I know that's not very comforting but you'll get your car back soon.

Golfnut311- Your question about the tires....to put it real generally, the blizsaks are all weather tires meant to run in the rain. Our stock S02's are more or less track tires wich don't account for foul weather driving.

This is my 3rd real wheel drive sports car and all of them, especially my RX7 would bring the back end around in the rain. I was literally scared to drive my RX7 around in the rain with my Dunlops. So, definitely get yourself a set of all season tires if you must drive your baby in the rain. Fortunately, I have my Tacoma so Gloria does not see the rain. Good luck to you all and be careful out there!

I assume you are worried about the car. There is nothing about our car that makes it unsafe in these conditions, but the tires are a different story. Get the right tire for the conditions. The S02's are meant to be warm. They do fine in the rain when they still have most their tread on them, once they wear, they don't do too well in the rain. As for cold conditions, you are pushing your luck with the S02's.

IMHO

Silver, I think the SO2s are supposed to be pretty good in the rain when the tread is new, but to deteriorate after about 5,000 miles.

However, the SO2s are terrible in cold temperatures (below 40 deg F) and I bet that was Ronald's problem.

I chose the Blizzak MZ-01 because they are better than the speed rated Blizzak LM-22 on ice and snow. The LM-22 is a speed rated tire and sometimes in the winter, on the interstate, I wish I had the LM-22. However, the added security on icy Wyoming roads is worth it.

Here are two good tirerack links comparing winter tires:

Ronlad,

Sorry to hear about the car However, the key point is that you and your passenger are okay. . . I've been in two really bad car accidents (thankfully not with my S, knock on wood) and have learned a very important lesson. . .

Cars (like ANY material item) can be REPLACED!!!!

People cannot.

Feel better, and don't dwell on the car. . . Be happpy that you and your passenger are alright
