Wrecked my S2K yesterday
Ronald,
Sorry to hear about your car!
But damn glad you are OK!
I lived in Germany and Belgium for 7 years I know your weather changes quickly especially this time of year. Unfortunately you all have to deal with it, I do not understand why they do not mix sand or something in the paint to make it safer. European driving is normally much faster than what we have in the US, except for those of us with S2000s.
Hope everything works out for you.

Ronald,
Glad you're both OK, much sympathy re your car. I hope it works out OK in the end.
We have equally crazy (shitty) weather in the UK, so every reminder about the schitzophrenic handling I hope saves someone else from doing the same.
I know some members get bored by the alternative tyre debates, but it only goes to prove how important it is. The differences in location must impinge on the choice, for example, the Central States have severely cold, snowy winters, necessitating a different winter tyre from us Anglo/Dutch/Norddeutsche types. We suffer misty damp, wet, dry cold, wet cold etc, so it probably feels colder than -30C, when it's really about 5C! Generally, we probably drive faster (S2K drivers may be an exception). Any input regarding safer alternatives is gratefully received.

Okay. So let me get this straight since it rains here all the time and is generally pretty cold at least at night even in the summer.
With the S02s it is dangerous to drive in the rain? Even if there is no snow? That really really sucks.

No.
It is not dangerous to drive the S02s in the rain when they are new.
The situation can be summed up as follows:
- The S02s are terrible in the snow (no traction).
- The S02s are dangerous in the cold (hard as rocks).
- The S02s are dangerous before they warm up (hard as rocks).
- Once the tread wears down (est. 5k miles) the S02s handle standing water poorly.
To put it more bluntly:
The S02s are a very slightly compromised track tire just as the S2000 is a slightly compromised track car.

malachi. Hmm... so what you're saying is that
1) S02s will get worse as time goes on
2) But it will slightly get better as time goes on (time it takes to get warmed up)
Okay that doesn't make sense. Haa.haaa.
So would you drive the S2K with stock tires in rain and cold weather? Not slow but rain and cold weather?

Sorry to hear about you and your car! I am always saddened when a fellow S2k'er bangs up his/her car. I am happy to hear that you came out of it ok though. that is key! the car can be fixxed or replaced, but body parts? thats a bit more difficult to "repair/replace". I hope everything works out for you!
