Wrecked my S2K yesterday
Thanks Barry. I was reading Ronald's tragic accident and got really worried. I mean it's alright if the car lost control when going fast, going through a puddle, through a turn etc. but he was just accelerating and was still at a slow speed. I really want to get an S2K but don't really want to get another set of tires to replace the S02s before I even drive it. As I said countless of times, around 5deg C is the norm for most of the year and rain too. I don't mind losing performance since it won't affect the thrill of driving the S2K. Longevity is good. I'll be looking at the S03s of course. Barry. I'm sure that you've posted this countless of times but what snow tires do you have?
Howie, I've got Bridgestone Blizzak MZ-O1 tires all four corners, same size as the SO2 tires.
Here's a thread I put up just after I got them:

Here's some pictures of them:

Here's a thread after my first experience driving the S2000 in snow, still on the SO2 tires. I was being optimistic. Having the car for eight days will do that to you.

The S2K should not be regarded as transportation to be used when you need to get somewhere, regardless of circumstances. It is a fair weather vehicle, to be used mainnly when you can put the top down for fun and recreation.

But the thing is I love the feeling of driving at night. I usually drive my car to school. And the way to school is really nice. There are twisties and there's a highway then twisties again.
Barry. Thanks a lot. I was looking at the Bridgestone site about your snow tires as well.

Ronald,
Bad to hear from your accident. Fine to hear that you are OK.
Sure this will reactivate our thinking of winter tyres. There are other tires than snow tires for our countries in Europe. This because we have to spend several months in cold weather. Summer tires (eg S02) do not perform well below 10 C. If you drive more than 10 km the tyres will warm up, but I'm not shure if that is the case when raining!
Check my post of winter tyres published bij http://www.autobild.de
for the V/W rated tires.

Bassman. I don't really like the idea of using winter tires for daily driving. We actually rarely get snow here. I think this winter season it snowed like 2-3times? So overall there was around 5-6 snow covered days. Rest of it is just rain and cold. There seems to be a lot of tires that will perform quite well in the rain just don't know if they'll be a good fit for the S2k.
The key issue here is not snow but the temperature. Summer tires are of a harder rubber compound that get too stiff in low temperatures to provide good grip. Winter tires use another rubber mix that stays soft and grippy in lower temperatures. So even if you don't have snow you still have winter so to speak. That's why a so called performance winter tire might be better in your case, it's a compromise that don't work quite as well in snow but on the other hand handle better and last longer in dry conditions, more like a summer tire.
