Default written off- ouch!!

I have had the pleasure of following this board since inception and driving the awesome S2000 from the date it was first released in Sept. 1999. Unfortunately my ownership came to an abrupt end a week ago yesterday when a new Malibu turned left in front of me (from a perpendicular sidestreet) without first looking. I had no time to react and the impact was like hitting a brick wall. ouch!! He received a ticket for failing to yield to oncoming traffic and was 100% at fault. The entire front end of the vehicle was destroyed but fortunately I emerged shaken but not too stirred

After the damage was assessed, it was determined unrepairable due to badly bent frame rails and now it will be time to think of whether to replace my baby or not. I am not feeling to great at the moment, which is understandable.

I know there are other board members who have gotten second S2K's and I was curious whether you noticed any difference between the my2000 and 2002. I know that the gearbox was supposed to have been upgraded, but was wondering if you could feel a difference. For sure the glass rear window is a bonus. Also, the 2003 will come out in October and I am tempted to wait because I like silverstone silver so much and there may be other upgrades coming that we don't know about like perhaps bigger wheels etc.

Any comments/words of consolation to share?

Thanks
JK

Sorry to hear about your accident, but I'm glad you're alright.

There was a post a while back about suspension changes between the MY2000 and MY2002. That would probablybe the most change that you could feel.

Go out and get another S2K. Might as well upgrade to a newer model.

Thanks for the words of encouragement! The shocking part is that the guy who hit me was an insce broker. He must have been asleep at the wheel

I just got the call from the insce appraiser and their offer to settle was quite fair. Unfortunately since it was a leased vehicle I will lose the taxes on the equity I had accumulated in the vehicle. That's life!

that's a bummer. good thing that no one was seriously injured and at least now you're chosing whether to get a new S rather than whether you want to keep a repaired one. of course you should get another one! in a few months, the 2003 will be out and you can either pick up a 2002 for a good price or get the silverstone (that's a great color) if the upgrades, if any, and color are worth forgoing the bargain on the 2002. supposedly the 2002 gearbox was upgraded and i recall reading some posts that there was improvement.
