Default X-brace safety concerns

I've read a few opinions regarding the safety of an x brace on the S2000, such as it doesn't allow the engine to "drop" in a front end collision, or that it can break and pierce the oil pan. Can anyone verify the safety or lack thereof of an x brace? Anyone have any first hand experience?

Hey Dave,

Where have you been? Anyways, I don't think the engine is going to hava a problem dropping in a frontal collision with an X-brace on. If the engine is going to drop, It's got to be a pretty hard collision. It should be able to bust the four little bolts that hold the brace to the frame.

As far as piercing the oil pan, I can't see that happening either. The brace has a smooth curved surface that can't pierce. If anything it serves as a protective cage for the oil pan. I can only speak for the Neuspeed xbrace since that is what I have.

BTW, that penguin video is serious comedy!

This issue has been discussed many times.

No one knows for sure because no one had such a hard front coilision to prove that X-brace will affect engine drop.

Sincerely doubt that an alloy brace is going to stop the weight of the engine block going through it. It should also provide protection for your oil pan and I believe there are instances reported on the board where it has saved oilpans from being pierced by rocks.

I think AusS200 was one that reported this but I may be wrong.

Some previous discussion....
