14.1 @ 99 for the '03, 14.0 @ 100 for the '04, well within margin of repeatability.
haven't you learned enough from the Status Updates? It don't matter if you win by an inch or a mile, winning's winning!

here is why AP2 is better than AP1:

^^^ All of those are 2 liter engines, the JDM cars didn't get the 2.2 until 2006. And the AP1 driver didn't even redline in 1st.

...ok? there's still a difference in chassis, brakes, and geometry. And Manabu Orido (AP1 driver) did redline, just not all the time (nor did Tsuchiya). you're not even making any power at redline so what's the point other than having a higher rev for the next gear?

The point of the video was to show the difference in the car itself, not 2.0 vs 2.2.

On real roads, AP2 is clearly superior.
Superior if you like a heavy flywheel, slower steering response, soft suspension, clutch delay valve, electronic safety nets, TPMS, softened HID headlights, and a lower redline.
Yes, because it makes the S2000 much better.

Close, but:

AP1 redline = 8900
AP1 fuel cutoff = 9200

AP2 redline = 8000
AP2 fuel cutoff = 8200

Watch the tachometer in that Nurburgring video and take note of how long he's above 8,000 rpm. After owning an AP1 for 6 years and switching to an 08 I just couldn't forget that ride up to 9,200, had to go back to an AP1.
learn something new all the time here thx

Again, these threads are silly, all S2000s are great cars, and I know it's just going to add fuel to the fire, but the AP1 owners are doing enough of that above. So I can't help but say this again.

An 06+ with HFC/testpipe and Flashpro custom tune (especially if done by Gernby by the way--awesome tuner) is a completely different animal from any other S2000 (be it AP1 or AP2). You can't spend the same $900 on a pre-06 car and be anywhere near as quick.

For the AP1 die-hards with blinders on: keep your "rawness" and have fun. I'll just be over here driving a car with 35% more torque in the midrange and at least 10% more up top. I'm cool with trading the last 500 rpms of revs for double the powerband.

Custom tune vs custom tune, no way the 2.2 would have a 35% torque advantage anywhere. +10%, that's it. Up top, with the same intake/exhaust, +5%.

I don't have blinders on, btw, I'd gladly drop a 2.2 into my AP1, given a minimum 8600rpm rev limit.

What's up with everyone on here having an inferiority complex???
The AP2 is not better than the AP1 and the AP1 isn't better than the AP2! We might as well argue that brunettes are hotter than blondes. Do we really need to prove that we are better than someone else because our car is 10% different? At this point people can pick and choose which generation they want. Get over it.

This. IMO the best year is the newest/lowest mileage/cleanest example you can get within your budget. I went from a SC AP1 to N/A AP2 and don't regret it, not all that much different in driving dynamics. IMO 06+ Flashpro is a huge advantage, especially if boost is in your future.
