Which Year S2K is the best and why?
Superior if you like a heavy flywheel, slower steering response, soft suspension, clutch delay valve, electronic safety nets, TPMS, softened HID headlights, and a lower redline.

On real roads, AP2 is clearly superior.

Ap1 spins to 9k , Ap2 doesn't do what an Ap1 does , so to me the way Honda built the car from the start is way it should have stayed till the end ..IMHO
If I lost my Ap1 I'd buy another in a heartbeat , its the best car I've ever owned buy a large margin.
AP1 redline = 8900
AP2 redline = 8200
They both (stock) start vtec @ the same ~6K rpm, so advantage of higher redline is wider powerband, plus bragging rights.
But the tradeoff is less torque at lower rpm's for AP1. If you want a track car or extreme weekend warrior, AP1 is more hardcore. If you want something that trades a tad of hard edge for a bunch more livability, AP2 is more user friendly.
One could go to extremes and argue if you want softer, get a Buick, AP1 is the best choice. One could equally argue if want hardcore, get a Sportbike, AP2 is best choice.
Ever read one of those comparison articles in a car magazine where its tough to pick a winner, and they say you can't go wrong choosing either of them? Well AP1 vs AP2 are way closer driving experience to each other than any two cars from different manufacturers being compared in some car mag.
Often people can't find the exact car they want, so they buy something close, and mod it to their desires. Very often the before vs after is a much wider gap than AP1 vs AP2.
AP1 vs AP2 is much closer than these are examples. They aren't THAT different. Both are great cars.

That is exactly what I wanted to know. It's like you read my mind. Thanks!
Close, but:
AP1 redline = 8900
AP1 fuel cutoff = 9200
AP2 redline = 8000
AP2 fuel cutoff = 8200
Watch the tachometer in that Nurburgring video and take note of how long he's above 8,000 rpm. After owning an AP1 for 6 years and switching to an 08 I just couldn't forget that ride up to 9,200, had to go back to an AP1.

here is why AP2 is better than AP1:
