as the years roll by, acceleration stays the same

Just curious: Alejo, would you consider the "drive-by-wire" S2000s an "improvement?" If someone offered you a stripped AP2.5 with DBW, would you take that over the cable-throttled version? It probably wouldn't matter, since the CR is DBW... but I don't like the "translation" of throttle in a DBW. I can still feel it in the Audi and it's a little bit annoying.
Not ITB's with DBW available yet though...
and my statement was not directed at anyone in particular - just felt like addressing the silly redline argument.

I love the comments from the AP1ers to the effect of "the RPM's between 8300 and 9000 is what made this car legendary"
so you think folks like me bought new cars and made them track cars for odd reasons that have nothing to do with that 1/2 second of time you are referring to?
good handling, light, well balanced, affordable, unique, a driver's car - these are more likely the reasons why AP1 and AP2 owners bought into the same car.

The car is legendary is was well-engineered from the beginning. Its still highly competitive in terms of objective performance - only a Boxster S and the newest 350Z will put down a quicker 1/4 mile time, with the S2000 and Z4 3.0Si running neck and neck at high 13s. The Solstice GXP/Saturn Redline are good for low 14s, the Audi 3.2TT is good for low 14s, a regular Boxster is good for low 14s, and the SLK350 is probably good for a 14 flat or a high 13.
As far as handling - the S2000's chassis is still the most capable. Of its competitors, its the sharpest and most responsive one, but again only a Boxster S will outdo it in steady state cornering and transient manuavers thanks in part to wider, and arguably stickier rubber (Ps2s).
But the reason that true enthusiasts bought this car..... BECAUSE IT WAS BLOODY GOOD FUN TO DRIVE. PERIOD. And it still is. I can only speak from my own personal experiences, but I have driven all the afore mentioned competitors to the S2000 save for the SLK350. NONE of them is as light on its feet, as raw and rorty, as the S2k. Sure some of them, especially the Boxster, are much better at being daily drivers in addtion to being sporting machines but...
If I had to choose ONE car to drive on a brisk Sunday morning up a twisty bit of road, where 0-60 times and slalom figures and lack of touchscreen MP3 players and 19 speaker sound systems are irrelevant, the S2000 would be my hands down choice
