The S2000 may not be the fastest, but it feels the fastest (i.e. more exciting). In the end, the arms race is just that, someone will always trump you with something faster. You buy an EVO, someone gets an Elise. You buy a 5.0 someone gets a Supra. You buy a Porsche, someone buys a Ferrari. You buy an S2000, someone buys the 07 Z. You buy a Corvette Z51, someone buys the Z06. In the end, there's always going to be someone faster than you, and I don't race competitively so I just got the car that's the most exciting that I could afford.
If honda wanted to build an all out sports car, it wouldn't have been a roadster.

Okay, I'll play along.
Yeah, the NSX wasn't extremely quiet, nor was it extremely smooth. But, then again, the car came out in 1990. Lets take a look across the board at what other cars Acura offered in 1990. Integra? Legend? And... well, that's about it.
Now lets take a look at what cars Acura offers today, shall we? Hmm, no more Integra. In fact, no more RSX. Could it be possibly... that Acura is changing their brand image?
And while the NSX may have fit in back then, it doesn't anymore. Or were you one of the people who were surprised that the Advanced Sports Car concept was more of a GT?Hmm....

I believe that we as enthusiasts are missing out on experiencing a better sports car because of the lack of progression in the S2000. When I first bought my MY00 S2000 in 2002, I compared it to a 1998 Boxster S. The S2000 won out because it was a better car. Since then, the Boxster S has transformed from being a decent little roadster to being a great roadster. Porsche improved on an already good idea and made it better.
Had Porsche kept the Boxster the same, we would never know what we were missing with the 2005+ models because the old one was a great car, but Porsche didn't stop there. They improved on the Boxster and made it better.
Why can't we get the same from Honda? Why can't Honda just redesign the S2000 and make it a better car? It's not just about the engine, it's about everything! Aerodynamics, tires, weight, seats, interior design, fit and finish, engine, etc. It's time for an improvement.

The problem with the S2000 is that so many Americans complained it had no torque, was too twitchy, not enough interior space, etc. Instead of spending R&D time getting more power and better handling out of the car, Honda spent the R&D time giving the car more low end, roomier interior, more cupholders, softer suspension, etc. That's why I bought a MY00 and modded it. I'd put my car against any stock 350Z in production from a 40 roll on the freeway or at Mid Ohio.
