as the years roll by, acceleration stays the same

The S2000 may not be the fastest, but it feels the fastest (i.e. more exciting). In the end, the arms race is just that, someone will always trump you with something faster. You buy an EVO, someone gets an Elise. You buy a 5.0 someone gets a Supra. You buy a Porsche, someone buys a Ferrari. You buy an S2000, someone buys the 07 Z. You buy a Corvette Z51, someone buys the Z06. In the end, there's always going to be someone faster than you, and I don't race competitively so I just got the car that's the most exciting that I could afford.
If honda wanted to build an all out sports car, it wouldn't have been a roadster.

I understand what you're saying about it being a roadster... but when something looks fast, it should be able to take Joe Shmoe and his family in their big, heavy a$$ sedan.
That's kind of embarrassing if you ask me.

I just think that Honda should make one... or at least have two model choices for the S2000. Maybe a Type R for an additional $10,000 with 350 hp.
As to why they don't just supercharge/turbocharge the current engine -- they need to make engines that are durable. How many people do you know with forced induction S2000s? I know about 10. At least half of them have lost engines within a couple years of making the mod. 50% failure rate may be acceptible for the aftermarket tuning world, but it's just not acceptible from the factory.
Look at the history of the M3, and that will tell you what this up-powered S2000 would have been like. Not necessarily a bad car, but every generation farther and farther from the original concept.
Honda could have chosen to go that way, but as commented here many times, they didn't with the S2000 and they didn't with the NSX either.

I don't give a rat's behind which cars it can "take". I only care about whether the driving experience is fun -- and the S2000 is way more fun than fast grocery getters like the the STi, Evo, M3, etc.
I do a lot of Auto-Xing and this thing is amazing. I don't doubt the car at all, which is why I bought it, but all I'm saying is that it wouldn't hurt to put a little more spunk in it, especially after 8 years.

Honda is not doing anything too differently than any other car company.
They made major changes to the car every 3-4 years which is right along the norm. They have also made little changes between the major changes.

Just compare the '08 Honda Accord V6 to the '08 S2000 CR, family sedan vs. sports car, automatic vs. manual. The acceleration of the S2000 is only a couple tenth's quicker in the 1/4.
However, I'll take the handling abiltiy of the S, to the versitilty of the Accord.

Even with the Cobra, most people consider the small-engine 289 version to be the classic expression of the car, with the best overall balance. The 427 was faster, though.

If you really need performance, get a used Atom for $72k and you won't find many stock vehicles that will be able to keep up, and if that isn't enough, you can always up the boost.
