I haven't wrecked my S (knock on wood), but i think i would feel closer to the car after an accident. It's like we survived it together. I say "we," because my S has developed a personality and a voice in my head.

Back in 2006 I rear ended a large SUV at low speed, no airbags nad no frame damage, just a hood and front fender and the plastic above the bumper. While in the shop yard it was vandalized, top slit...frame bent, trunk broken... So I got a new top, a complete repaint except for the front bumper, and a top frame.
the interior was scratched up when the tow truck put the front plastic piece inside to transport, I still have that, the paint is not 100% and I have some new squeaks and maybe a rattle, eventually I had to go 50/50 for an out of warranty replacement of the air pump which was due to accident damage and I got a used cruise control thing and radiator replacement.
Over all I give the shop a 90 our ot 100, the car will never be the same and I have no issues, this is after all a 7 year old car (11/03) and it has 45,000 miles on it. It runs perfectly, I have done nothing but maintenance like one set of front brakes and some tires, and fluid replacement.
I am satisfied over all, sure it never will be the same and I will have to explain all this to whomever buys the car someday, but it is a great car in great shape and looks terrific.
Few cars are on the road without having some sort of body work and or scratches and dings that have not been fixed.

I think it all depends on the shop.. I hit a deer at low speed in my rsx. Took it to a shop my mother new of but had no experience with. The hood and bumper never fit right and they said that it couldn't be fixed. It also pulled even though the alignment was perfect.
Later the s was hit at about 30mph in the same spot the deer hit the rsx same body parts replaced along with all the suspension under the drivers wheel and the frame had to be "pulled". This was done at a MUCH better shop. They had ferraris on the lot. The s looks and drives perfect..

^I think your case was a little more extreme. I wouldn't want that fixed either even if it could be.
Here's mine for reference. Unfortunately they are all crap phone pics. The parking garage at work really brings out the difference in what was repainted vs original paint.
I think I might take it back and see if they can just repaint/blend the entire indentation part from the fender down the door to the rear quarter. I think if that got blended it would look 100 times better.

By my best count, of the 23 new cars I have purchased over a long lifetime, 7 had body damage that occurred at either the dealership or the factory, and was repaired before delivery. In only two cases did the dealer inform me before I took possession. There may have been a couple of others within that 23 which had repaired damage which I did not spot. There are few cars that are completely flawless with regard to finish. Those are just the facts of life.
