These cars are made to have the tops down. The heat setting for the top down works great to keep you warm or cool. I love it. The little window that you pop up in the back is great to settle the wind and the noise is not as bad as when you are riding a motor bike. I'm getting my hair cut so I don't have to wear a band on my head to keep my hair out of my eyes.

top down as often as possible.

sun, clouds, cool, hot, day, night ---> top is down.

I don't get enough seat time in the S - no matter how much I get I seem to want more! so when I do get seat time I want the top down. Some of my favorite top down weather days are cool Northeastern late fall days....for on lookers late spring and early summer appear to be perfect top down driving days - for me any day there isn't a storm and its above 40/45 dregrees...

I wouldn't say he bought the wrong car (though calling most covertables "pretty gay" is a bit odd), there is a huge group of people that keep their hardtop on full time. I can imagine that but the S is unique enough without the top down. One of the great things about the S is that it is appealing in so many ways: unique engine, handling, looks, rare, top down, pure sports car, reliability, etc.
yea.. convertibles are gay.. along with all the retractable hardtop mercedes/lexus coupes and porsche's..

i use it alot down when going long distance i love it.
my favorite is driving at night when its was a hot day and the night is warm and the moonlight is lighting up the interior driving next to the ocean. sploooge.

Whilst picking my car up from a service (it was early winter here), one guy behind the counter says to me:

"gee you must have been cold this morning"

me: "not really why?"

guy: "with the roof down"

me: "nah its not real cold, and what's the point of buying one if you don't have the roof off"

guy: "uh summer?"

me: "yeah and then you'd complain it was too hot!"

Yes yes yes! This is the perfect quote. Unless its going to damage my interior, its down. I've changed my hairstyle just so i can drive to work and not mess up the-doo (gel and spikes baby!).

When its really hot out, i've got some sunscreen in the glovebox, and i take my watch of so i don't get a watch-tan. Kick the A/C on when its hot to take away some of the heat-soak of sitting at a red-light and your golden.

Damn, i miss my s2k, can't wait to get her back from the shop

I have mine down as often as possible. Exceptions are when I'm driving around the corner (literally) to get lunch, on the way to work in the morning (hair issue), and long road trips (although I generally have the top down for at least part of the trip.
I try to keep sunscreen, a hat and a stash of hair elastics in the car so there are no other excuses to keep the top up!

The magic of this car is that you can have it both ways in about 7 seconds. My other two cars, '61 MG Midget and '59 Austin Healey, takes about 15 minutes to get the top and framework out of the trunk and install it. Therefore, they usually stay there through rain or burning sun, you just keep driving in the rain or put up with the sunburn. During my full day test drive of the S2K, I drove about 100 enjoyable miles top-down and returned in the blazing 95 degree sun with top-up and AC on. Amazing, you can have it all in a single car !!!
