Honestly I think Honda should have considered a 3.0L INLINE 6 for the S2000. Maybe an inline 5.
they did the original SSM prototype was a 5 cyl 2.5L engine.

first of all, you would have 6 reverse gears and one forward gear, IF you could mate the S2000 tranny. This spins counter-clockwise vs clockwise in the S2000.

The NSX is also transversely mounted (left to right). Think FWD-type transmission. Thus, the NSX transmission could never be used.

Honestly I think Honda should have considered a 3.0L INLINE 6 for the S2000. Maybe an inline 5.
you could make an addapter plate to mount up any tranny you ever wanted ther fore you could mount it in a non transvers way. take supra guys for instance they mount th400 th350s and glides up to 2jzs all the time. the bells on those chevy trannys ar about twice the size of the stock trannys. they just use addapter plates. my point is if you want to do it bad enough and you have the money you could do anything!

I build both f20c and the vq35 and I have to tell you the F20c is a much better design . Stock for stock the f20c can take more abuse and is much more mod friendly. I have more people with blown VQ35 than f20c. The VQ is a production motor built to accommodate many platforms ,the f20 was made for one purpose and one platform . Honda didn't cut any corners on the engineering behind the f20 .

Plus the VQ motor is huge when it is all put together.

I just rebuilts a vq and turned the key on it today. Original motor had 6000miles on it . It came to me from a friend . It is equipped with a Vortech supercharger . The bottom end went, all the rod bearings are junk. Crank was trashed ,cams were scored and the heads are junk. $8000 later...............

We have thought about trying a Landrover 4.0 v8
That's a good point.

the guys in Formula D, which drive 350Z's swaped there VQ's out for the SR20DET's. bc they kept blowing the VQ's.

Why put an inferior motor in your car???

Sounds like an AP1 owner that would be better off in an AP2.
Yeah, because the additional 8lbs of torque will have you snapping your neck off the headrest.

If its not broken, don't fix it.

I see no point getting that in depth with the engine of an S, which to me is a very fine piece of engineering.

But the 5.0 Liter Supercharged Ford motor in a Miata must be insane! Won't there be a traction problem?
