Default 100 cpsi racing cat.

Hi folks,

little piece of info from an S2000 in France (track day oreinted)

something I learnt from (and had done by) an exhaust specialist (competition oriented), instead of putting a straight pipe there is another option to incease power but not remove the cat which is to do the following:

take off and open the stock cat, remove the 400 cpsi (cells per square inch) catalytic element and replace with a 100 cpsi element

result: you have a very high flow cat that works (for emissions testing or your conscience....) and you get the power gain due to a much more permeable catalytic element

FYI these cats are used for Porche Cup and Modena 360 Challenge race cars where cats are obligatory but not used OEM because they take 15 minutes to heat up and become effective instead of the <5minutes for the standard (denser) 400 cpsi
(so run the car 20 minutes prior to an emissions test and it passes !)

brgds

No, reason to use this over a straight pipe.

As long as you don't have a check engine light on you will pass OBDII emissions. They only plug into your computer.

Perhaps that's how they do it where you're from ... however many states do a full blown test using an exhaust test - both at idle and at 55mph on a roller. This coupled with the mando visual inspection of the cat will only put you in a lot of trouble - if you show up with a test pipe instead of a cat.

If you didn't know, it's a Federal crime to remove or tamper with a properly operating cat on a street car. In some states this puts you in the hurt locker because you'll get slammed with both state and federal charges. BTW, it's not double-jeopardy when you get slammed by both state and federal governments for the same offense.

Frankly, you may think you're getting away with achieving a 'cheap' 4-6 HP by removing the cat, however, the fines you may have to pay are probably larger than your car is worth. Save your money and do it the right way ... besides, your car smells like crap without the cat.

Actually that's called "soldier" not slave. The difference between soldiers and slaves is that soldiers are paid.
