Motor octane (MON) is accurate, RON as has been pointed out shows high and our screwy RON+MON/2 method sucks.

How is octane measured in JDM land?

any of you ran an "octane booster" and 91-93 octane fuel to see the same or close effect as your 95-100 octane blends etc?

I will try a booster for a shit and a giggle, especially since its so hot out here lately.
LOL...if you use one of them with 91 octane you will be close to 91.6

Unless you reset the ECU it won't do shit.
it wont do shit even after you've reset the ecu. our cars dont adjust timing based on octane levels, so your car is just treating it like 93 octane and you just wasted a lot of money for nothing. lesson learned.

i know you're the undesputed Sc king, but not to sound disrepectful, i've dyno'ed on 100 and didnt show any gain. the car WILL NOT advance/retard itself to compensate for octane alone. the times it has showed timing advance are temp, load, and tps based.

The ECU will be pulling timing with 91 octane. We tested my car when stock on Church's dyno and gained 16 rwhp with the ECU reset and 100 octane.

The hotter the weather the better the high octane helps out.

also in HB they sell VP 103 from a 76 station not sure on the price.
The Carwash at Gothard and Beach Blvd has VP 100. The 76 station on San Miguel in Newport Beach has 100 octane. Where is the Sunoco station in Costa Mesa?
Did you read this post? Sixteen horsepower gain with 100 octane. [/QUOTE]
ya i saw that. i'd have to see it to believe it. just for the simple fact the I'VE ALREADY done this.

The higher octane fuel only helps if you engine is tuned for the fuel. You will not see gains by using a higher octane gas than what you car is tuned for. Conversely, you will see losses from running a lower octane gas than what you car is tuned for.

Timing will only change if it detects knock (ie if you put crap gas in), it shouldn't change if you put high octane in.
