nope. 35000 miles, over 2000 clutch dumps, not a problem. just run LE607 fluid and youll be a happy guy. later

there have been 2 failures I can think of off the top of my head. the 04 diff isn't gonna help you any. a clutch delay valve will.

like dave, i had over 1000 clutch dumps on EACH of the two AP1's that i owned, and never a single problem. i used mobil 1 diff fluid on the 2nd one, and the 1st one still had the OEM fluid in it.

In response to your question. Yes, the 04-05 housing is stronger, the 04-05 housing is reinfiorced at the main caps (thicker main caps). The diff. housing caps are the weak point, I have an 04-05 housing sitting on my bench waiting to be assembled. If you go with a 04-05 housing I recommend cryo-treating the gears
and the entire housing assy. and have it assembled by someone who knows what they're doing. Although hardtopguy has a pretty killer deal on a 4.56 geared/comptech reinforced housing (if its still available). I do not believe just adding better fluid to the rear end is going to prevent a stock diff. from grenading, as fluid has nothing to do with the strength of the main caps. Hope this helps, I went through the same questions a month ago and decided to buy an 04-05 housing, use stock gears and cryo treated the gears and housing. Bearings and housing cost me about 550.00 and the cryo treatment was 125.00, my buddy is going to assemble it for me. Oh also last time I talked to Hardtopguy his exchange units are from 04-05, so you'll get a newer style diif. anyway.

the 04-05 housing is not any stronger. no one has any evidence otherwise.

and "reinforced" at the main caps (thicker main caps) ??? lol. apparently you missed the thread where they MEASURED the bearing caps on the ap1 and ap2 diff, and actually, the ap2 diff has THINNER caps than the ap1.

the ap1 caps are 14.75mm thick, while the ap2 caps are only 14.20mm thick.

it's amazing to me how such misinformation can spread all over the forums. so that's enough for one thread.
