Why dont u guys try it out.
Tried it last night, my '03 doesn't do this. If I turn the key fully to the on position and just wait my check engine light comes on solid for a few seconds and then goes out (along with several other dash lights). The engine light doesn't flash, I even waited for an additional 30 seconds to see if it would flash.

Brought car into dealership, they seen the check engine light and said this is normal, I also went to a second dealership, just to confirm, they also said it was the norm.

This might be related to your battery.
I recently had a very cheap battery installed in a Toyota . The car sat for a couple of months and needed a recharge. After the recharge, the dash lights started blinking on and off but the car did start and the blinking hasn't returned even though the car has since been charged again.
I asked for someone to explain the phenom in the "Cars Questions " forum but never got an answer. My only conclusion from this was that it must have had something to do with the battery or possibly the removal and the replacement of the new battery.
Make sure both battery cables are tight. Still only a guess though.

Most dealerships no nothing about the S2000. Also, how much did you pay for that diagnosis? If you paid nothing, you probably got nothing. Keep searching on here, you're better off. Good luck.

bump.. my 04 does this as well... turn the key to the on position and the check engine light will blink and then go away. when i start the car there is no check engine light. I just noticed this happening and could have sworn it never did this before.

Does anyone know why the check engine light would blink before start up?

It is not the maintenance light, it is check engine light for sure.

Edit:

Found it
