Default 2008 S2000 Transmission Problem

I bought my 08 S2000 convertible last Sept. 2008. Since then, it has barely 5k miles on it. While driving it last weekend, the gear shift popped out of 4th gear. It has happened intermittantly 5 times before, same conditions...unexpected, smooth road, good weather, cruising under 50 mph. I brought it in for its first oil change today and reported this. Dealer rep looked up on internal website and found the report of the problem...solution...total transmission replacement. Still under warranty, no problem. Then he says they'll have to duplicate the problem to be able to fix/replace it. They ran it up and down the freeway for a few minutes..nothing.

I don't want to drop it off and have their guy drive it for a month and still not make it happen.

Any ideas for how I can try to make the failure happen so I can pass the info onto the dealer? This can't just be a random thing, can it?

there is a tsb for this problem. honda even says it's an intermittent problem. hopefully you should not have too much trouble. i would not take it to them if they are giving you problems. also if they are telling you that you have to replace the whole transmission, they are wrong. i work for a honda dealer and we would just take the transmission apart and replace 3rd and 4th gears and synchros with new updated parts. can be warrantied at any honda dealership. especially when so brand new. hope you get the problem fixed.

Popping is rarely an easily repeatable problem, unless its wasted. Be nice but firm, and escalate to the regional manager.
