But I need to move away from the highest crime rate neighborhood in San Francisco, so I'll have to sell my loved one to do so.

Its at 55K miles, and the maintenance light is on. I found this page http://www.photoslave.com/journal/auto/s2000_maint.html
that lists what kind of maintenance should be done.

I changed the air filter, the oil, and checked the spark plugs with the help of a friend who works on his own car (but not honda) about 2K miles ago. I downloaded the pdf repair manual & wnat to try to figure out what I can maybe do myself rather than paying the Honda Dealership $600 for.

MOst of the things listed there dont SOUND difficult, but doing them could be a challenge.

Any suggestions on the easier stuff that I may be able to do?

Engine Oil Changes - done
Air Filter - done
Spark Plugs - done
PCV Valve
Rear Diff Oil Change
Transmission Oil Change
Brake Fluid Flush
Cooling System Flush
Clutch - Master & Slave cylinders replace
Valve Adjustment

On a side note - is it worth it to get new high performance tires to maybe sell it for more $? I have shitty back tires. New, but shitty.
all those listed are very simple. Especially the PCV valve, that baby is right on the valve cover and just requires you using a vice grip everything else is simple as well but the valve adjustment takes time and if your not that mechanically inclined it will intimidate you. I dont think all those are at that interval but couldnt hust to do them. Good luck

Directly from Honda Link, the "severe" schedule:

Recommended service for your 2000 Honda S2000:

--Check pads and discs for wear (thickness) and damage.
--Check calipers for leaks and check tightness of mount bolts.
-Check tire inflation and condition.
-Inspect tie-rod ends, steering gearbox and rack boots.
--Check steering linkage for looseness.
--Check fluid lines for damage and leaks.
-Inspect suspension components.
--Check bolts for tightness.
--Check condition of ball joint boots for deterioration and damage.
-Inspect driveshaft for cracks and check boot bands for tightness.
-Check parking brake adjustment. Should be fully applied within 9 to 13 clicks.
-Inspect brake hoses and lines (including ABS). Check the master cylinder, proportioning controlvalve and ABS modulator for damage and leakage.

-Inspect cooling system hoses and connections.
--Check for damage, leaks and deterioration.
--Check for proper fan operation.
-Inspect exhaust system. Check catalytic converter heat shield, exhaust pipe, and muffler for damage, leaks, and tightness.
