Default About to flush my coolant...

Hi guys..I’m about to change out my coolant. I feel its due and its getting mad cold here in NY...no idea when it was done last as I’ve only had the car an year and a half . I did some reading here and from what I can tell all I got to do is take off the cap, drain the old coolant out and refill…and see how the car holds temps afterwards.

What concerns me is I read how people get air in the system and it’s a nightmare. Is there any way to avoid this? Any top tips?

Also should I only use OEM coolant or can I use something else?

I think you need to turn the heater on first and when draining you'll need to open the bleeder to get the coolant to drain from the motor.

If you're not getting air into the system, then you're not getting the old coolant out. You just need to purge the air out afterwards.

Use OEM fluid. It isn't that expensive and it last for ~5 years.

Why not wait two months until the weather is a little more friendly?

You are guaranteed to get air in the system, so it needs to be bled until the heat is hot.

It helps to have this funnel: http://www.amazon.com/Lisle-24680-Sp...illfree+funnel

This tool allows you to bleed the system by maintaining a fluid level that is higher than the top bleed point along the firewall of the S2k, and keep the engine running with the radiator cap off. What I did with this was keep it attached to the filler neck and half full with coolant until there was hot air exiting from the heater vents; tt took about ten minutes of idling and some small blips of the throttle.
