Sorry for asking a newbie question, but i got my car a year ago with 12,500 miles. it has 14,500 on it now and i have never had the diff. oil changed and it's MY00. I don't have an owners manual because he had bought it used himself and no it wasn't in the 'secret compartment' and advice will be appereciated. please no flames.

Change it now and then every 10K miles or every year.

I just had Chris's changed - went with the AMSOIL 75-90 gear oil and the dealer here had no problem with the synthic fluid. Also changed to synthic engine oil - but they used MTF for the transmission fluid change. Hhis S2000 is an 04 with 7800 miles.

So what does the dealership use when we ask for a differential fluid change?
I walked into the garage area of a local dealer in my area and saw a barrel of 80w-90 GL5 gear oil. 80w-90 GL5 is perfectly acceptable for our cars. I use the Mobil 1 75w-90 GL5 gear oil and do it myself though.

Jiffey Lube has Pennzoil 80W-90 GL5 hyploid gear oil in big drums. That's where I got my first diff oil change at 3300 miles. I switched to LE-607 at 7000 miles.

I seriously doubt the validity of this statement. Since the S2000's diff fluid is unique from all other Honda car products (not counting Acura here) and since Honda has already admitted that their car division has NO "in-house" diff fluid for our cars (at least Honda Canada), they sure wouldn't keep it in 55 gal. drums.

Can they tell you the specs on this fluid they keep in 55 gal. drums? Viscosity? Synthetic or non? GL rating?

in fact, my honda dealership buys redline GL5 diff fluid from a nearby auto parts store. as stated, honda has no "in-house" OEM diff fluid.
