Nice writeup. Although, I would add a switch override as there are times when I'd want to turn it off (i.e. driving around a campground).

Just curious why you went down this route instead of installing the Honda DRL controller and changing the US wiring to match the CA wiring? Was the cost significantly more?

I went down this route because none of the Canadian wiring is in the US model (nor the controller, plus a few other things). And, it (to me) was much more complicated, invasive and expensive to try and modify the existing wiring harness of the car, etc. I actually did investigate doing just this, but when I looked at all of the differences between the two (I looked at the factory electrical manual), I thought to myself "forget that". It was much less invasive (in fact, completely non invasive), cheaper and easier to do what I did.

I'm not sure if I'm understanding your second question. When you turn the high beams on now, the low beams stay on.

I can't say for sure without looking at the 2004 electrical manual. If you can look at the 2004 electrical manual and see that the headlamp circuitry is unchanged from the 2002 model, then yes, it should work without any changes.

I don't think you can turn the DRLs off with this mod...

It will always be on?

If you pull the lead that goes to the 'ignition source' lead under the dash, then the DRLs will go off (everything else will still operate normally). If you put a switch inline with that, then you have the ability to toggle the DRL behaviour.

Excellent Post! I've been looking for this type of device (without going ghetto) for a while as well. It reduces insurance premiums in some locals (it will for me) and will pay for itself quickly.
