I have the AEM V2 as well. I didn't plug the drain, but I did make an umbrella out of a $1.89 plastic flower pot from Home Depot. I tested it and it works remarkably well.
I don't go near puddles.
got any pics? id like to see this
+ i got the AEM V2 intake... scares me to have it (came with my car) because i live in Florida... and rainy season is a coming! =(
Here's a rod from a s2k with an AEM intake. He wasn't even driving the car. This happened from 1" of melting snow overnight sitting in the driveway. He started the engine in the AM, and it blew apart.
So definitely take the necessary precautions.
Well.....just drove an S with a K&N this weekend. Throttle response is great, and it's louder than the Comptech. Can't say which actually adds more power, they both feel great.

i just bought a car with it and the seller doesn't have a stock air intake for it. should i be worried? (KS rains quite a lot) , and if i were to downgrade which will be better?
PM me if anyone wants to trade
avoid big puddles... i hyrolocked within the first 6 months. luckily my car was fine. other than that you should be fine. (chicago)
avoid big puddles, engaging VTEC in the wet, & plug your hole!
I've been running a V2 in Florida for three years. Use common sense and you should be alright. Most of the water will drip into the V2 when the car is sitting, rather than when you are driving. My rule is that if the top is wet, I gingerly start up and drive the car careful to keep my revs low.

I had a V1 on my car for a couple years, and there are two issues, one of which you don't have to worry about with the V2. The V2 should not have hydrolock issues (according to AEM), so that has apparently become a non-issue. However, the drain hole others have mentioned is an issue with any intake that sits down where the Vx filters are. Instead of plugging the drain hole (it's there for a purpose ) I made a shield to cover the top of the filter. You can buy shields that will fit at some auto parts stores, or you can make one out of sheet metal or an old milk carton. Clamp it to the intake with a hose clamp so that it keeps the rip off the filter and you'll be good to go. A well made rain shield looks cool too, but it's in a place nobody ever looks.
