Default Aftermarket clutches

I participate in both SOLO 1(time trials) and SOLO 2(autocross) so I use,but do not abuse,my clutch.

Last year I had the clutch changed under warranty(not without a struggle with Honda) when I had the tranny opened for the 1-2 grind fix.

Since then I have been conservative(re:gentle) on the clutch but last Sunday at the local Auto-X I launched at over 6000rpm with 245 Hoosiers on, and redlined it without moving an inch complete with the complimentary smell.

When this one wears out I shall therefore not be changing for the OEM but a higher performance clutch.

I am looking for feedback from anyone who has changed to an aftermarket clutch[Comptech(ACT),Mugen, ect] for track use.

Thank You,

Pierre

Funny.

Well, I put 37,000 miles on my stock clutch with plenty of 7,000-8,000 drops; strange that you've had so many problems. My stock clutch never had any problems, but after adding the SC I could smell it more often.

I just broke in the ACT disk and plate, bought from Comptech. I like them. First thing I noticed is that it is not any harder to push to the floor. When you start to let it out though, it comes of the floor quicker and stronger - and engages quicker. After breaking it in, 500 miles, I noticed during a race (last night) that I chirped all the way through 3rd gear. I guess it just grabs that much harder.

How are Clutchmaster and Centerforce clutches? Also, did anybody get the lightweight flywheel as well?

I was one of the 5 that drove Harry's car in Asheville...I LOVED the action of his clutch. And those third gear chirps were very fun, indeed!

Harry was over at my place where last week where he inspected the Spoon set up we are putting in my car shortly. He said that the springs looked quite similar and he expects that given the appearance of the PP and disc that it will have similar action with the Spoon. I can't WAIT! My clutch isn't shot and it doesn't slip, but it makes some of the most bizarre sounds. I can't wait to have all that racket gone.

We are shooting to have it all done in the next week or two. I need to get the throwout bearing and other bearings before so those can be replaced, as well.

We are also doing the lighter Spoon flywheel. That's going to be awesome...it's all gonna make me do this ---->

More to follow...

I'm planning to have an upgraded clutch put in when I'm having my 1-2 grind fixed in the next couple weeks. Where can I find the best price? I was looking into the act as well, but am up for suggestions. Any of our board sponsors happen to be having a clutch sale??
Also if anyone is intrested in some sort of group buy. let me know.

Here is a link explaining clutch application for street and track as well as combinations from multiple manufacturers.

I would also be interested in a group buy for the ACT H.D. Pressure Plate & Street Disc. Whether the release & pilot bearings are included I don't care, they can be had at any Honda Dealer. Need the $5 alignment tool though.

Anything under $525 is a savings.
